Default What should I do about the high rpm on highway with S1 tranny in B16A?

Should I change the fd?

Which fd will work with this tranny?

Should I swap the tranny for Y1? or J1? or YS1?

I love the close gears and how I can constantly stay in vtec through every shift, but the really high rpm is starting to bug me while on the highway... I'm almost in vtec at 120km/h in 5TH GEAR!~

I can't member if you can do the same for your tranny, but for my J1 I swapped in the LS 5th gearset. Here's a kick booty writeup on it.

I just put up with it and got a VAFC so I can adjust the vtec on long trips. But then again I have 2 other daily drivers.

Get a new chip. I got same setup. VTEC @ 5200. VTEC won't kick in until around 150 km/h.
PR3 ecu.

I run an S1 tranny and my VTEC crossover is at 4900 and I dont have a problem with hitting VTEC in 5th gear. Especially when cruising. Whats that all about? In 5th gear and 75mph I am right ~ 5500. Im not in VTEC the whole time...

Its not hurting the engine cruising at that speed, B16's where meant to rev high.

Does your S1 have the stock 4.400 fd? If it does, you may need to check your tach. I have a JDM S1 trans on my b16a and at 75mph my Apexi tach shows my revs at ~4500rpm.

The highway mileage on the S1 trans is pretty good. Driving to Vegas a two weeks ago at about 85mph the whole way I calculated high 30's mpg.

YS1 tranny is the same way, b16 tranny's have really short gears. Good for quarter mile.

I have a 92 integra gsr and when I'm driving 60mph my rpm is 3500 and at 70mph it is at 4000 or so and at 80mph 4500-5000rpm is that normal. It seems very high. The engine seems kind of loud when just cruising on the highway. Could it be that the tranny needs to be rebiult. I also have a 94 integra ls and it does not do this at all on the highway at 60mph it about at 3000rpm's.
COULD ANYONE TELL ME IF THIS IS NORMAL OR NOT. THANKS!

VTEC requires more conditions to be met then just rpm.. such as coolant temp, oil pressure and throttle pos.

im rocking an s1 and i love it..........i was on an ls tranny for a while and i love the way the vtec tranny feels over the ls. i think lower e.t.'s are worth more than a comfortable ride. just my 2 cents. peace!
