Default could my wastegate be bad? leaks all the time.....

For a while I thought my turbo was going because it wasnt spooling all the time, but now i realized the poping sound is coming from my wastegate.

i have an open dumptube and even when the turbo is spooling exhaust gas is leaking out, when i hear the banging sound i feel alot more exhaust come out of the dumptube.

What would cause the wastegate to leak and make a lound clunking/banging sound when opening and closing. The wastegate hardly ever stays shut but randomly i can keep the boost going and then pop( the sound gets louder according to the rpms)

i am 99% sure its the wastegate and I have heard there is a ring that seals it up around the piston??

I dunno help please

sounds like a bad vaccum/boost source. i know a few days ago someone on here posted the correct way to run your lines

you know that black box on the back of the block near the oil filter, i didnt hook that up yet......would that be a problem

but even when i connect the wastegate vacuum source to the compressor wheel it still does it.

and my boost gauge reads -20 at idle

if it was a vacuum thing then the wastegate being connected to the turbo would solve that problem right?

this is normal. spring controlled, so wastegate will incrementally open, meaning that you will leak some exhaust gas, however not so much that prevents you from boosting. that is why EBC helps closes wastegate and speeds up boost. therefore to answer your question wastegate is suppose to leak and build boost at the same time.

why would wastegate cause popping sound? wastegate at full boost sounds like a weed wacker. no popping sounds. popping is a sign of detonation. check you spark plugs for detonation.

no no its not detonation. It is just one pop

I drive........pop/clink and turbo stops spooling

i let off the gas.........clink and then turbo starts spooling again at deceleration

my engine isnt detonation becuase it isnt building boost
