Default NHRA....Who's got these guys by the $#@!# ???

LOL someones got them by the ***** or something! Check this reply I recieved from them today....

"Hi Howard,

Still no DART blocks in any of the Heads Up classes. I wouldn't look for this anytime in 2004.

Jim Skelly,
Racing Competition Director"

You can go out and buy one of these blocks at Summit ,AR Fab, RACE engineering, PAYN and other wholesalers and have it at your door tommorrow or the next day.....but try to buy a Ecotec setup hell it'll take forever....

Blah Blah Blah....politics

yup its all about politics and trying to make it fair as well .but all in all its hurts the little guys. I dont mind buying a Dart block and running 2.2-2.4 liter setups its all about who ahs the money but if you restrict a bseries at 2.1liter about the max we can really be safe then that slows us down. but still all in all its there to play safe

Howard before you start yelling "conspiracy" I just broke out the Ecotec engine handbook that GM gives away at every event, In the back is a list of parts that we use in the motor that is in the saturn, I picked up the phone and called Sterling Chev. asked the parts guy about the block and cylinder head (part numbers listed in the book) Both were available 7 to 10 days, list price block $3417. head $1549. must be paid in full when you place the order.

Yes GM is throwing lots of money at their program!, Hell we can't even get corporate help from Saturn, And we have proven we can run. I can't figure it out!

Nhra does what they want when they want, You don't have to run them there are 3 other sancitioning bodies to run!

I don't know what the deal is with the dart block? seems like a good piece to me!

Just my 2 cents, yours and mine together now we have 4, think we can get a million?

Charlie

If NHRA allows the Dart block, then they have to allow "aftermarket" blocks in general. Both GM and Mopar already have drag racing programs in place. It would be nothing for them to cast up some "off road" pieces designed especially for drag racing, and then watch the power levels rise. By requiring OEM castings, at least everyone, well funded or privateer, starts off with the same block and head.

I think that was the basic reasoning they provided for the rule, but I'll double check with my sources.

There was a time that the Ecotec block was unavailable but still allowed in the class....And numerous other parts that are in that book also. Its not like the DART block is gonna give any threat or advantage over a stock block, other than being a more cost effective way for a Honda owner to go racing. How many racers out there actually own a DART block? If there is a dozen of them then thats justs another dozen that would show up at NHRA. There isnt anyone posing any threat to anyone with a DART Block at all so who cares. Im within any guidelines or rules with my car and my displacement is only 2.2L. It doesnt matter anyway when someone gets enough $$$ together and does a fully built K-series mated to a G-force or X-trac the shoes will be on the other foot. After Tuning Norris' Stock K-series we learned a great deal with that motor in a matter of 4 hours. I wouldnt be surprised to see that engine built and capable 1200+ whp with a Turbo. Or stuff one in a RWD at 1600#'s......Its all about the money.....And the worst thing is alot of us have it.....but alot of it tied up in these cars and then the dam santioning bodies go belly up or take in money from GM and make a rule change that makes it nearly impossible for us to keep up......When I started I had a perfectly running car then 3 months later they change the rules...then the following year they allow the orignal setup...Quit changing the dam rules! this is why 90% of the cars dont start at the beginning of the year.

yeh, this frequent rule changing is out of hand and is not fair. They need to do some serious research first before they make the rules and stick with it for alteast a year at a time. Its not fair to the racers that make them money.

B blocks are everywhere...I personally have 3-4 B16 blocks I got for no more than 100 a peice.....and they are complete short blocks that are in perfect condition....hardest part is finding spare heads IMO....heads are still somewhat easy to find....but no where cheap at all

The way that I look at this whole topic is that NHRA thinks that the Dart block will give an un far advantage to the classes. If this is the case, why is does IDRC and NOPI allow it???? I think that that is not the issue. What does the NHRA have against people having less of a chance of oiling the track at each event. I can see them not allowing the block in pro, or hot rod, but what about sport fwd. Nobody gives a crap about the what block you have in sport fwd. I have talked to a lot of people that run in the sport fwd class with me and they have no problems with it. They all fell that it is just another block (Honda) that has been sleeves. The only reason why I am running the block in my del Sol is because I had issues with sleeves wanting to sink in the past. My feeling on this topic is, if NHRA wants more people to be at there events they need to allow the block to get racers to show up. Otherwise the NHRA is going to continue to have low attendance to each event. Personally I will not attend another NHRA event until they change there attitude about things. Fontana was not a pleasant experience!!!!!!!!!!!!

ya it seems like you cant even keep up with nhra revisions . i wont run their events im cool off that . nopi and ndra for me. limiting cars and keeping them slow will not allow us to progress in this sport.
