strange chipped ecu problem. works in 1 SI, and doesnt in motor swapped SI. Please read.
The other day I was at a friends house helping him install 720 cc injectors to run a custom chip for boost. The injectors went in, resistor box and ,put the chip in, and it ran like ****. After playing with it for a while, decided to go with 450cc injectors just to get it running. Same problem. Idled like ****, wouldnt rev past 3000ish and when it would idle down BOOM, super backfire.
Now I know this sounds like an incorrectly burned chip. So I programmed an all motor chip for 240 cc injectors just to see what would happen. We put the factory SI injectors in and the same problem occured. Idled like ****, wouldnt rev past 3 or 4 grand.
Now here is the unique part of the story. My friends girlfriend drives a bone stock, and I mean VIRGIN 2000 SI. So I slap the same computer, same conversion harness and same 240cc injector map in her car, and the car cranks fine, idles perfect, and runs awesome.
One thing I noticed about my friends car, is that he has to pull his tach signal from the service port because for some reason, the tach stopped working through the ECU. Also, he has an AVC-R hooked up, and we have quadruple checked the wires to make sure its right. When placed on REV monitor, at idle (around 950-1000) rpms, the AVC-R reads 200rpm, to 250.
That is where I think my problem is, or his rather. We've tried swapping distributors, injectors, plug wires, you name it. And we've basically narrowed it down to a wiring issue. Here are the specs on the cars.
Friends Car:
1999 Civic SI (OBD2B) harness still in tact.
1995 Integra GSR motor (running with the 00 si distributor)
Friends Girlfriends Car:
2000 Civic SI (OBD2B)
bone stock.
so my question is, why would it run in hers fine, and not in his. Is it the lack of a proper tach signal thats confusing the computer which is mapping fuel? And what is really weriding me out, is that with the factory injectors, and the P2T computer, it runs fine.
Has anyone encountered this problem running a obd1 p28 in an OBD2B car??
feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for any help!

unfortunatly most of the time it is installer error.my advice would be to check all the variables .double check the avcr, make it function correctly.
you were right, found out he cut his harness and twisted and taped it back together. whoa. you were right! im just glad it wasnt my error
