Default simple i/h/e question

um whats the general order someoen should follow when installing the intake headers exhaust bolt ons ?

im pretty sure most people do intake first but would a header with stock exhaust do anything? what about a new exhaust system with a stock header?
would the "5hp gains" from intakes even happen if u were to do it on stock header and exhaust? or would u need all three for one of them to actually allow power gains

i know my car is a lot louder with an intake, but does it acctually give me more power since i use a restricting stock exhaust system ?

being able to suck in air faster but stil having to blow out slowly seems like theres nothing gained from the intake part

i know this is somewhat of a newb question but i never really understodd how this works

so are the actual gains from just one i , h , or e from the i/h/e even there?

if i get headers and use my stock exhaust does that even do anything in terms of power

Most aftermarket parts will help out a stock system...but personally the i/h/e are more of a finishing part. IMO figure out what you want from the car (looks...some speed...all function...all fashion etc etc) if you are looking for some performance i/h/e is a decent start, but overall if your looking for all function I would get some suspension and save for a turbo or a swap, depending on what year and model accord with how many miles.

But welcome to h-t

Default headers first or exhaust first

ive been thinking of buying DC headers, I already have intake so if i do get headers i would have i/h but not E

would i get any performance out of the headers if i run on a stock exhaust ??? cus if not then i would just be using money that wouldnt do anything until i get Exhaust

i cant afford to get exhaust and headers at the same time , thats like 800 bucks right there

or would i be a good idea to just get exhaust first and THEN a header

Like someone above said "Aftermarket parts will help out a stock system" So if you just buy the header (i'm assuming it will be a 4-2-1) it will let the exhaust fumes flow a little more freely into the stock pipe. Just do it piece by piece. You wont see MUCH of a gain but you will notice a slight gain and change in tone.

Just remember that if you plan on swapping your engine or turboing later on down the road is it really worth it to buy this header? because you will just have to buy a new one for the new engine or a new one for the turbo. So if you dont plan on swapping just buy the header and then later on buy the rest of the exhaust.

this is all my opinion but...

-the header would be a complete waste in sight of turbocharging.
-intake would be overpriced and hacked up to be later used for charge piping.
-exhaust would be good but unfortunately most cat back systems for accords are only 2.5"/ 60mm piping... which I would eventually want to upgrade to 3" in my eyes. (btw I have a apexi catback now and sounds great but restrictive 2.5" on a 3" dp).

cool thanks for the reply ahha ive learned about basic intake headers exhaust btu i am JUST learning about turbo ,

it jsut seems so much better of a deal 4000 bucks for like 75-100 hp (as advertised on turbo-kits.com for fmax) than 1000 bucks for 15 hp from intake headers exhaust

i already got the intake part of that i/h/e combo and until today i was pretty sure about getting DC sports headers, now i guess ill save up a little more and go for the A'Pex-i world sport

o also

1. by the way is it required that i get a new exhaust though? its liek 500-600 for an hp gain of less than 10

2. what is the turbo version of headers ?is it the thing that runs to the downpipe and to te cat converter?

When you have a turbo, you don't use normal headers anymore, you have a turbo manifold that routes all the exhaust into the turbo, and then you have a downpipe from the turbo to the cat.....3" is pretty much the best size for the d-pipe and exhaust WHEN you have the turbo...

the thing im worried about is if i buy the apexi world sport that i wanted http://apexi-usa.com/exhausts_ws.asp

and it isnt compatible with my turbo plans then i would have wasted like 600 : /

Then just save your money for the snail and drive it stock for now...there really isn't that much difference with i/h/e.

You can certainly use the APEXi exaust or the stock one, but your turbo setup will just make less power and be less efficient...

I'd get the turbo set up and then when you have the money, get a custom 3" exhaust..
