CEL on my civic
ok I just purchased a 97 civic with 173k on it and it is throwin out a cel. My previous car was a 2g integra and I was spoiled cause all i hade to do was peel the carpet back and look for the flashes on the ecu. how the hell do i get the cel to blink so i can find out what is wrong????????????

OBD2 ECU's don't have a LED built into them, however this light was relocated to your instrument cluster as you have already observed. Above the ECU you'll find a green 'plug' that has a blue 2-pin connector in it. Using a paperclip, you short these 2 pins together, turn the key to 'on' and start counting the blinks appropriately.

yeah my friend tried doin that to his civic and he blew fuses....i thought he did sumthin wrong. but I knew it took sumthin along those lines just didnt want to **** anything up so just makin sure. thanks man
Get the ECU trouble codes first then we can help you out. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, your local Pep Boys, Auto Zone etc. will sometimes scan the ECU for trouble codes at no charge.
