Your Opinions needed!!
Hi! This is my 1st post here and I would like to get some comments and opinions from you guys since you probably have a lot of experience dealing w/ Honda cars esp. Accord here. Currently, I'm in a dilemma. I need to get a good used car. Given my restricted financial situation, I can either get a 94'/95' EX Civic or 92'/93' Honda Accord. The Civics will probably cost more (maybe about $1k) because they're newer and have a VTECH engine. I guess my question is : How long a 92' Honda Accord can last if it has about 120K miles? Honestly, I really like the look of 92'/93' Accord and I can save some money also if I buy an Accord. With the $1k, I can probably put on 17" wheels. What you think?
I would say go for the Accord over the Civic. Why? Because the Accord has the larger displacement engine and STOCK will be somewhat more fun to drive IMO because it has more torque. I've driven Si Civics and was not that impressed below the VTEC threshold. In daily driving, the Civic felt like...a Civic. The Accord has much more useable power in daily driving. Plus...like you said you can get the 17's hehe...
So the Accord has around 120K miles? What's the mileage on the Civic?
Here's my '92 Accord EX

i also prefer the feel of the Accord over the Civic... it just feels the road better and doesn't have that light peppy feel... however, in lieu to this aspect of a car, the Prelude is a much better car...

My 92 Accord Sedan Auto has 123,237 miles on it. My transmission went at 123,100. The rebuild cost $1400. You could probebly find it cheaper. Go with the Accord, it just a better car, and in the long run, you will be happier.
Accord man, you can easily juice 250k on that engine, but like the others said, save that grand for a h22 swap, that'd be so bad ***. Then your car would have 35k-whatever depending on how many miles are on the engine. The body can definitely take the mileage w/ regular tuneups and stuff. And it's "V-tec" by the way, not Vtech.
Yup, a 195~200 horsepower Prelude H22A engine literaly bolts right into the Accord engine bay. It's the electronics that are the hard part. It's funny to see the Accord tach at 8K.
i have a question, assuming that the car is in 2nd, how come the h22 revs to 8k rpm's, but the speedometer indicates only ~65?...shouldnt the h22 be able to get up higher in 2nd? at 63xx rpm's in the accord, i can get up to ~62...i mean, the R get up to ~80 in 2nd at 84xx rpm's...
It's an indicated 8K, it's really 7.7K, Accord and Prelude tachs read ~300 rpm high on the top end.
The H22A engine/tranny combo has shorter gear ratios to keep the revs from droping out of the VTEC range on upshifts, hence you can "only" do ~65 in second.
Put an Accord transmission with it's longer gear ratios on a H22 and second gear will be good for 75 mph, but acceleration is going to suck 'cause those gear ratios are a really bad match to the H22's power band.

remember all cars have tachs that are skewed from the factory as an implicit safety measure... you'll notice this if you ever have your car dyno'd or have your emissions checked on a dyno (like in NoVA)...
also, take notice that your speedo is also skewed from the factory as well...

Hmmm I did say elsewhere that Honda tachs tend to read high, but I was just thinking... With my F22 the tach was dead on. My dad's F23 tach and Mom's D16 tachs are dead on. The B16 Civic Si's tach seems to be dead on too. The only tach descrepancy I've heard of is with the H22, which reads 300 rpms high on the top end. I think whatever sensor on the H22 that sends the rpm signal is what's off.
You are right about the Accord bieng more fun to drive around town and thats why I recommend it. My car has 125,000 miles on it, thanks to my mom. It has good torque and you do not have to rev the "pee" out of it to get power. Does anyone have more info on the F-MAX turbo kit for the 6g accord?
get the civic .. its a lot better.. looks sportier and has a million options to either fix up or to show.. or both. as everyone knows .. accords suck sometimes cuzz there limited in parts and more expensive to fix up..
Seeing as this is an Accord forum you're seeing more votes for the Accord over the Civic. Judging by your post count it doesn't look like you posted in the Civic forum. Over there I'm sure they'd vote for the Civic.
Maybe if you actually drive both cars you'll get a better idea of what you want.
