Have you checked and/or changed the wires, cap and rotor as well? Maybe your wires are loose. Make sure they are on tight. I've had the wire come loose form the cap before on one of my previous cars.

I have the same problem. I know it's a vaccum leak because when I take off my intake and put my hand over it, the car still runs. I can actually hear where the air is getting sucked in (in my case the intake manifold gasket). Vaccum leaks are notorious with Hondas, check that next

its melbourne blue metallic
also i thought it might be a vacuum leak, but it only does it off and on, not something thats all the time, when i get on it its not sluggish and it still rips through redline
also when it happens it does feel like it stumbles briefly intermittenly and harshly, would fuel injector cleaner and new fuel filter help, its either spark or fuel and i cant figure it out

That's a pretty nifty test. I'm gonna try that on my car because I've been having a slight idle problem too.

i dont think its an idle problem, would new plug wires be the answer, because new plugs fixed it for about a month?

Had the same problem. Changed everything. New ignition, FPR, plugs, fuel filter, ignitor, coil, cap, rotor, injectors. Didn't think of changing the wires becuase they were only about 6 months old. At least when I finally got it running right I had brand new everything and a bunch of spare parts. Accel

So are you saying it was the wires?

My wires come off periodically, mainly just when I am running hard on the car. I had this problem for like 2 months before I found out I was only running on 2 cylinders b/c the 1st and 4th wire plugs came off. Would getting new wires fit tighter so they dont come off? Or should I be worried that my engine is popping them off by pressure/blow by?
I had the same problem before even when i had just replaced my ignitor. Make sure you buy an OEM one. I replaced mine with one from pep boys and it gave me the same problems you were describing after a few months. I ended up getting another used distributor and it solved the problem.
coptzer what the hell you always know you get ahold of the cruisner if you have problems like this... j/k lol but def. wanted to bump for car looks hott love that color cant believe you wanna sell it...
def. a sweet ride
hope you find the problem w/ the idle, im sure you will...

Me and my friend just did a lash adjustment on his car. When we went to start it up it sputtered like it was misfiring. I'm assuming since the car is a 99 that maybe a stock wire just crapped out, but does anyone else have a suggestion? Thanks

Well, we messed with the plug wires. Seems to have smoothed out somewhat. There is still a misfire, a CEL came on. Don't know the code though. Plus the car is running filthy rich. It smells like someone poored 93 right underneath the exhaust. Any ideas?

Check the gap on the spark plugs. If you took them out, you might have messed up the gap if you didn't carefully put them back in (banging the side walls).

we hadn't messed with the actual plugs, but turns out the number 1 and 2 plugs were just extremely loose. Took about 4-6 turns to actually seat them in the head. Misfire isn't there any more, but the car still runs pig rich and idles in the 1000-1300 range. When we rev the engine to get the idle to drop they drop so low the car stumbles to stay running and then slowly jacks its way back up above 1K. There is an AFC in the car, but the fuel curves haven't been altered. V-Tec engagement has been lowered 400 RPM but I doubt that would effect the car running extremely rich. It through a CEL again but we haven't driven it anywhere to pull the codes yet. It's just weird that after it ran perfect, with the exception of some valve train ticking, that after we pull the valve cover and adjust lash that the car would run so rich. We're going to redo lash and see if that effects anything. We just need to find what's causing the mixture to become so rich.
