Default Whats the difference between Vtec point 1 and Vtec point 2?

Like mechnically, what happens differently at VTEC point 1 (4400 RPM) and VTEC point 2 (~5800 rpm)?

On my GSR with intake and exhaust, I can hear the changeover at VTEC 1, but not VTEC 2. Although my friend who has Skunk2 Stage1 cams, you can hear both VTEC 1 and 2. Anyone know why?

The so-called "2nd vtec" is just your secondary runners opening on the intake manifold

he's asking what mechnically happens and why he can hear his frineds more and not his.. im sure he already knows that it opens up secondaries at the 2nd engagement..

but im not sure why u heard his and not urs.. maybe cuz he has more mods.. that would improve air flow and such..

bump.. for answer

The answer is, like he said, there is no VTEC 1 and VTEC 2. One is VTEC at 4400, the other increase in noise is his secondaries opening.

The reason VTEC is louder on the other car is because he has more aggressive cams for one. His exhaust system can make a big difference in tone as well.

the loudness i doubt has anything too do with actual vtec.I know my ls sounds mean around 6k and its just because of the higher rpm lobes

Skunk 2 IM does not have secondaries. And there is no VTEC point 2...VTEC engages at 4400 RPM, and the secondaries open up at I believe 5700 RPM. The secondaries have no association with the actual VTEC mechanism.

damn, my car is the opposite, i can bearly hear the vtec changeover, but can hear when the secondaries open easily. sounds like your secondaries are goofy or something, maybe opening too early, almost same as vtec, or the secondaires are not engaging at all. ****, got me man.

I'm surprised you don't hear both.

With an intake you should be able to hear your secondaries (5800). Often with an exhaust, you can hear your VTEC (4400). My exhaust makes my VTEC "pop"

Not to jack this thread but I have no primary v-tec but a loud secondary at 5500, I don't know why, I have all bolts on and skunk2stage 1 cams running p28.

You probably have a chipped p28, meaning vtec probably activates at 5500, which would be about right for s2s1's. I also hope you have a single runner manifold becuase the p28 dosen't open up the secondaries on the factory gsr im. And for the last ******* time, vtec only activates once.

thanks for the input, but like I said, I can only hear the changeover. . but the pulling really doesn't start until the secondaries kick in. . . but there is no audioable tonal difference at the 5800rpm point. .

Is there a way to check to see if the secondaries are actually opening up?

the comptech icebox I have installed leaves me with very little noticeable change in noise at 4400... but very distictive at 5800.. "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"

I don't know but before I fucked up my timing because the dis. came loose and cause cam gear to jump teeth. I can hear the v-tec loud at 4500 and nothing at 5500, now I don't even have nothing till 4500 but till 5500. I have a stock IM. also p28 with skunk 2 chipped.
