Main rear seal leaking...
so my car is at the mechanic because hes making my test pipe.. and i knew i had an oil leak but i thought it was coming from the gasket.. but apparently it looks like its the main rear seal.. i checked some other threads but none really said WHY a main seal would go.. so would anyone know why a main real would leak like that?

It shouldn't. There should still be a gap between the main seal and the flywheel.

When over torqued, it will make the crank slightly out of balance or roundness. I've talked to honda techs about it. They have told me that more times than not. That is the reason for the main to start leaking. I would imagine, that and old seal is most likely the culprit. But just throwing in info from past experiences. Just something to keep on your minds when torqueing your flywheel to 200lb ft.

Hmm, never heard of it. Although, most main seals that I have seen leaking are original clutch/automatic and high mileage.
It would have to be obscene amounts of torque to deflect a 4" diameter piece of forged steel that is at least 1" thick (crankshaft where flywheel bolts on). I just find it very hard to believe.

I thought the same thing. I was putting on a flywheel and a tech told me that most of the time they get cars in for leaking rear mains was over torqued flywheels. I mean I'm sure its an obscene amount of torque too and they aren't real critical if you go over specs anyways. Just throwing in my information if it means anything to anyone.
