my 86 crx si is leaking coolant from the backside of the motor near the oil filter.. no idea what it is... any ideas would be appreciated

 

could be a number of things. just jack the car up, dry/clean it up as much as possible, turn on the car and find where it drips out of.

 

Water pump, coolant hose that runs from the pump to the thermostat, possibly even intake manifold hose leaking and running down the back. Do like jackon said, clean it up, start it and get under there.

 

its probably the thermostat housing, i had the same problem on my 89 ef hatch its on the back of the motor near your left side of the intake manifold

it might be that..but i had the same problem and it was the pipe that runs from the thermostat housing across the back of the motor, that had crack and it was a constant drip, pretty bad.
