Default K20 Swap....Questions on Tech..

We just finished a K20 swap in a 2001 SI(Canada) EX(States). The engine came from a 2003 SIR(canada) SI(US).

It turns over fine but it wont start. We have the SI`s original computer and Key, we even changed the Ignition module that should hold the right code but the car doesnt seem like it wants to recognize the key....

Honda said the key needs to be reprogrammed but they need the serial number of the car which will be hard to get for sure....I already called the company that supplied the parts and they dont seem to know it either...

What to do....

iirc, the key isn't programmed - the ecu is coded to match the key.

i would go back to traditional troubleshooting. no turnover = check for fuel and spark in the cylinders... then check timing...

Can't have someone reflash your ECU taking out the immobilizer function?

All you need is the VIN from the car the ECU came from, then any Honda dealership will be able to flash your ecu to accept the original key, etc. It takes about 5 mins.Your car will not start w/o getting this done. I'm sure there is a way to physically bypass the immobilizer but i dont suggest anyone tell, if they do know how.

The problem we are having is getting the VIN # from the donor car....The engine supplier is not very fast or co-operative...

Can we bypass?

Try using your civic VIN. When I did mine, Honda told me they used mine (even though I had the rsx-s vin (had an A2 before the A)) and said it worked fine.
