Default Can't choose a compression ratio for my build.

This is my first honda build, so please excuse my ignorance.

I'm just starting to collect parts for my B20-vtec build and I'm having trouble choosing what compression ratio to run. I want a reliable daily driver with a lot of torque, but at the same time, I don't want to compromise too much performance. It came down to a question of whether I should run 11.5:1 or 12.5:1 pistons and detune it so I can run it on premium gas. The 12.5:1 gives me the option of changing my timing later to run race gas, but I think it may be too much. It also lets me use a thicker head gasket so I can get the compression somewhere between 11.5 and 12.5. Any comments, suggestions, concerns? Also is it worth the money to get this balanced? Any feedback would be appreciated. I don't want to start spending this kind of money and make mistakes.

Here's a run down of what I think I'm going to use:
B16a head
GSR cams (will be upgrading these later)
B20 block
P72 ECU w/Hondata
Eagle rods
ARP studs
Mr. Gasket head gasket for B20-Vtec hybrid
11.5:1 or 12.5:1 JE pisons (.020 over, for B20 w/B16 head)
Type R oil pump
Type R water pump

if it was me, i wouldnt run anything over 11.5 for the street. thats what i plan on running when i build my engine way in the future. maybe 11.1 depending on what gas you can get.

you mentioned getting something balanced?? if you mean the rotating assembly, then yes, it is 100% worth it to balance it. unless you want extra stress on your engine at high rpms.

probably be a mean setup when its built. id also get a full rebuild, bearings & gaskets and stuff.

make sure you torque everything, and use plenty of assembly lube.

but my engine is still stock. im just researching early

also maybe a tranny w/ lsd. itr if you already have a hydro, or b16/b17 gsr if you have a cable tranny.

You should choose the compression by what kind of gas you're going to run. 91? 93? 100? I'd also choose by what kind of cams you plan on running.
