Default Help N/A Gods, Need Answers

First question I want to stroke my b16a2, can I achieve this by dropping in a b17 crank/rods and what problems(ifany) will I have?
Second Im looking at getting oversized pistons, what would be the best setup if I used a b17 crank?
Third How do I tell the differnce between a b16 and a b17 crank.
And lastly Im trying to achieve 200 whp b16, what would be the most effective way to get there using the b17 crank?
FOr example hows this"(keep in mind I need a setup that will with stand a 50shot)
b17 crank/rods
.25 ctr pistons
crower springs retainers, cams, PnP
uberdata or hondata
PLEASE any response is GREATLY appreciated

I take it that you already have the B17 crank and rods and that is why you are wanting to use them?

pm katman, and ask him about his b17 engine. he can most likely answer your questions.

Your best bet would be to knife edge the b16 crank and work with that I believe.

The b17 has a longer stoke, so chances are its going to push the pistons up past the top of the block. That would be messy.

The CTR pistons will give you a nice bump in compression.

Maybe find a b17 block to put the crank in, and slap the b16 head on therre.

I was under the assumption that a b16 block and b17 block were identical and the difference between the two being rods crank rods and pistons. I read awhile back about someone using a b17 crank in there b16 block with ctr's, Im just trying to find out for sure before I jump into this one

Even if the blocks are identical and the cranks are different, chances are the crank is going to have longer stroke, thus pushing the pistons further up.

This is all hypothetical, but makes sense to me.

And also i thought that the b17 pistons is also alot lower in compression then the b16 also? When the first integra vtec came out people were talking about it being the best boost motor!

You are correct that it will come out if the hole, but by how much,CHAD built a 200 whp b17 and they stuck out of the hole, but they worked, i just wanna know if this setup will work and if the blocks are the same....anyone???

Just some B17 tech notes ...

- B16 + B17 block castings are identical. Same deck height, dimensions etc. The only differences between the 2 are the block stamp ID and the internals -> crank, rods, & piston.

- yes, the B17 crank has a slightly longer stroke, but nothing like a B18 crank. It will push the piston up higher, thats why you're suppose to use B17 rods w/ a B17 crank. duh

- B17 pistons are low compression (9.7.1). I highly suggest using B16A (PR3 or P30), ITR, CTR or after market pistons to raise up compression levels.

- B16 & B17 heads are the same ****.

- you can totally use B17 crank + rods in a B16A2 block, just make sure you follow the crank bearing color codes pertaining to your B16A2 block. Use whatever B-series piston you'd like use. Just note that if you decide to use ANY Type-R pistons, you WILL have to get the B17 rod milled on either side of the wrist pin area to accept or fit into the R piston. Or you can get the piston's wrist pin area widened...its up to you, but this mod HAS to be done.

- Last I checked, CTR pistons are totally flush with the top of the block's deck. (or sit .10 in the hole which is flush with the deck top) They don't stick out of the block like some are claiming. They sit in the block exactly like these P30 pistons do (which are in a B17 block btw):

So, in conclusion HighRevn, you CAN run the B17 rods + pistons in your B16A2. Just make sure you use B17 rods (not B16!), use the correct color coded crank bearings, and everything will be A-OK.

...about Chad's B17 build up..
Great setup, but I'm a trippin off his power output -- it should be higher imo. Because, I was dialing in at 175whp with a Spoon intake cam/type-R exh. cam setup with my 'blacksheep' engine. I'd assume he'd be making more than that with the Toda C setup.

*scratches head*
