well...you need a timing light to retard your timing to an exact degree. I would go more than 2 degrees if I was spraying also...maybe go to 6-8* BTDC...
Just loosen the dist bolts and rotate the dist towards the radiator support a mm or 2.....but you really should get a timing light

Yup get exact timing with a timing gun, use a marker to mark the distributor to head first, just draw a line across both the dist.and head then use the timing gun to do all your adjustments. make sure your ac or what not is not on! good luck!
