Default Mysterious Defi gauge problem

I'm having this problem with my Defi electrical oil temperature gauge.
When the key is in ACC, the gauge will already be up in the 100C. After the car has started, it will be slowly moving up until it reaches just beyond max and stay there. Sometimes, it will suddenly sweep wildly back and forth and drops to 0C.
I know there is nothing wrong with my oil temperature. The initial check-up sequence indicates that the gauge is normal.

What is causing this problem?

- bad ground?
- bad controller unit?
- bad sensor?

Check all the wires make sure it's not loose or pinched...

had this exact problem with my Greddy gauges - you need to hook up the constant DC power to the gauge - any constant, unswitched power source will work, but it needs to stay on, even if the car is shutoff. I used a circuit /fuse sharing thing and tapped into the power door lock circuit on the fusebox - has worked perfectly since. PM me if you need any more help...

The gauges use the constant power to self-calibrate, and without it, they will act really strange. You obviously also need to hook up switched power as well - make sure you follow the wiring diagrams that should have come with your gauges.

The funny thing is that my other gauges (oil press and water temp) work fine. Since they are daisy-chained, should either all or none of them work?

some gauges will work without the constant power, and some won't. When I wired mine up wrong, on the oil pressure worked, and the temp was acting all goofy. Just double check that you wired up constant AND switched power to the gauges per the instructions...

Another thing is that all 3 worked fine before. This problem just happened recently.
