Compression Test on motor out of the car??
i've never done it.. but you should be able to hook up power and ground to the starter and it'll crank. have someone hold the cables to the starter and another person hold the throttle open. anyone else?
i would think this will do it

Yea...what if there is no tranny connected to the engine? That wont work.
I think as someone said it another forum...you can crank the engine over with a socket/rachet.

do a leakdown test. i work at a wrecking yard and we do it all the time on the good motors. take the motor to a reputable mechanic and have him do it for you. shouldn't cost more than $50 to $100.

you forgot "someone to hold the motor" so it doesn't lunge off the engine stand!!
we did this a few years ago no prob.. it's kewl seeing your motor firing while sittin on a stand!
