NEW CIVIC TYPE R QUESTION
I put my deposit down at a dealer and the dealer said it's coming at the end of December. I am getting PY color. don't know how it will compare with the integra R.

Dispite the ideas that a CTR may be coming you can just dream on. It'll never pass the emissions test and plus, the HB market in NA is just too small. People like them in Japan but not too many AVERAGE people like them.
Wait a minut guy's... Some dealer actually took a DEPOSIT! What in hell is going on over there??????????
Ask the dealer if he will take a deposit on a 02 type R for me as well...
And can I have a pony too ( while I'm dreaming )

No I believe it will pass emissions tests. The Jap-spec is the same engine as the RSX type S with a few tweaks to get 15 hp, but europe gets the same exact engine as the RSX type S. If Honda wanted to, they would ship the Euro CTR no problem. Crash test wouldnt be that much of a problem since the Civic Si already passes (although a type R might score lower due to it's lower stance).
It wont be comming here though because it would undermine three objectives of Honda/Acura. 1. to make Acura more performance minded than Honda (S2000 is an exception to commemorate the 50 aniversary) 2. sell mass production cars (the RSX type S and the Civic Si) as much as possible ( if the RSX type R comes out, it will be to meet objective #1) 3. Differentiate Acura and Honda further (Hondas will use Si for sporty cars and Acuras will use type _), Acura is trying to get themselves some name recognition as a high class luxury company and being known as part of Honda isnt going to help in North America.
The RSX type R has a much better chance of showing up here than the Civic type R. IMHO of course

yes i heard the same thing about the name recognition. that's one reason why they don't want to bring the ctr to the states. since the rts and ctr share the same engine it'll make acura more related and on the same level as honda when they're trying to make the acura brand a couple notches above honda.
but hey it shouldn't be too hard to make a "home-made" ctr... get a new si and put in a rsx type s (or god forbid... a type r in the near future?!?) engine in... and go from there and fix up the suspension, interior, etc.

Its actually heavier than the DC2 ITR!!!...same HP...
I would guess they will let the CTR in for sure.. Why? There are a lot of cars in other brands producing 160 to 180 HP although not as fast as the present ITR... But ITR is a special edition... And as for Mitsubishi EVO VII hitting the US next year and probably the STi WRX.... Honda/Acura will have hard time selling their Civic/RSX
Maybe RSX-S can beat some cars in the market.. but how many type S do we see? I hardly see one at my local dealers while there are around 20 of the RSX around. And although SI got 160HP, Nissian Sentra SE-R got around 170 ro 180HP and Neon also got 160HP??(not sure about this one), and some other same classes cars. And the most important thing is they are similar in price range...
If the CTR is coming... can't wait to see it... but for my self, I am going for the EVO VII
I am too old to have a hatchback.. four doors is better for me..
btw, how much are they asking for the CTR in Canada??
Anyone thinking of importing a new Integra Type R from Japan(the RSX Type R)??

The CTR engine uses most of the Type S engine but not all of it as rods, pistons, head gasket and few other parts are made for the CTR engine to make it lighter and stronger at higher RPM range. Only the CTR in the UK has the same compression ratio as the Type S. It's listed in at only 197bhp but Honda of UK have always tended to list HP rating lower then they actually are just like the 187hp ITR but it made more whp time and time again against any stock US market R's made to the ground. So my current dealer in Europe says the HP ratings for the UK spec CTR is 205bhp The bhp for the J-spec CTR is 212bhp. Main reason for HP increase if the comp. ratio difference also different emission regulations.
I'm actually think it's funny that the Civic Si is coming as hatch back since Honda recently when asked in Europe about bringing the CTR over to the US they said no because the hatch is not popular in the US. I wonder what happen in those 3 months time frame to change all that. Probably the release of the Ford Focus SVT 170bhp car which is the Ukspec Focus ST170...releases last month I believe. But then again coming next yr they get 200bhp RS Focus and AWD turbo Focus WRC edition not long after making around 300bhp.
The CTR should pass regulations but not sure if people will pay for the car with price tag at $24,000 USD selling in the UK. Also the first 150 J-spec CTR where just shipped to Japan the first week of Oct. They said they will be only sending aprox. 5,000 CTR units to Japan but it just depends on how well they sell as they just want to meet that quota. The Folks at the Swindon factory will be making the US Si from what was released last month.
The new STi WRX is coming out in Jan 02' in the Uk comes with 261bhp which is slighty down from the 276bhp. Besides the lower HP everything from the J-spec STi will carry over even the water injection intercooler. Now kinda wonder if this is what the US will bring here 6 months from Jan release in the UK as the UK STi sells for 29k which is 41,760 in USD. They will also have Prodrive verison which basically gives you the aero kit and seats and few other items from Prodrive verison sold in Japan..the price of the Prodrive model is almost $44,000 USD.
I figure the US market verison will cost around 36 grand minus some options the UK verison get...hell the UK spec WRX costs around 30 grand and we only paid 24-25 grand for ours...minus alot items.
As for the Evo 7 not sure what the crash rating is on it but I've been told it did well in crash test but it seems the car is totaled out in the test since Necap test crash the cars harder then the US verison of it. It should also meet emmission in the US not sure in CA or NY as they both use the same emission formats now..so they may get a different verison or lower hp verisons if they goto those states. The UK verison runs around $42-43,000 USD. So if this car came to the US I'm not sure how they get the price down unless they sell the RS verison instead of the GSR verison here in the US. But if they sell the Evo 7 from the UK the pricing probably be around 36 grand or so. They also just released the Extreme verison which is Ralliart special editon in the Uk with 339bhp which runs for $57,593 USD and the Extreme S which has 350bhp is $55,593 USD..main reason because it only comes in white or white over red and is based on the stripped out model Evo 7 RS with more boost.
The new Skyline 34GTR M-spec also just recently hit the roads which is said to basically be the same as V-spec of last yr but handle hella alot better at top speeds unlike the V-spec which could catch you on on bumpy roads in the UK or like in the US. The price of the car is around 56-60 grand USD depending on options.

Is it really 24.000 USD in the UK???
In sweden its "only" 20.000 USD. The EDM CTR will definately pass emisson tests in the US. In sweden it has the highest ratings in emmisson tests. Its even rewarded with "miljöklass 1", which makes the car tax free for five years. In Sweden its rated 200hp and 196Nm. The JDM is rated 215hp and 202Nm.

I can't believe someone will actually believe what I said. that's a stupid question that no one in North America will know the answer, so I just reply it with a stupid answer.

Ander: Well the UK CTR come fully loaded plus this includes # plates and the 17.5% vat tax. But there is cheaper ones at around 21 grand but don't come with any options..not even AC I believe.
Vald here is your link..the Civic is the # 1 safest hatch in Europe. If car passes the head on frontal at 40mph it should pass with flying colours the verison the US uses at only 30mph.
