Re: new civic Type r? (padraf)
Think about yor question why would honda want to bring over a car that can smoke the RSX-type S and ever the RSX Type R because of its lighter wieght????
no it will never come over unless Honda decide that the acura brand name should no longer exist...

CTR coming to North America ???? This is pretty much impossible !!! I think the CTR will not have a chance before the RSX-R comes out. I am pretty sure the CTR will steel a lot of RSX-R's market.

It won't come to America because the overly phallic gearshift is going to offend the conservative midwest.....sakes alive! what is that thing?

Re: new civic Type r? (Big Phat R)
It must be a cabled linkage in order for it to be placed there. Looks kind of neat, can't wait for my test drive!
I took the WRX out the other day. Not as impressive as everybody says it is (acceleration wise). The gearbox is the worst....very sloppy shifter...mind you, the one I took out was the "test drive" mule with 12,000 hard km's on it. For the life of me, I couldn't shift fast from 1st to 2nd, must be bad synchros.
Most memorable moment with WRX: The look on the salesmans face when I dropped it into 3rd (I was already at 100 km/h) and took a clover leaf at tire schreeching speeds

about the gearshift:
i've seen it, drove it and loved it!!! better shifting than ITR, very accurate, and very near the steering wheel, rally style!!

i understand you, i can say almost for sure it's parallel with the floor, not dash.. i never tought of that...hmmm...
anyway, if honda made the gearshift like that must have a reason!! don't judge it for looks, like floyd said, it has lots of potencial!!!

Re: new civic Type r? (padraf)
I've driven the Civic Type-R here in the UK, a week ago when I had new break discs fitted to my integra. It was very impressive, handling-breaking-acceleration-wise. Performance is roughly akin to the ITR, but it is nice and quiet, with a good ride, and lots of space. Very sure-footed. And probably my next car...
The weather sucks over here, but we do get some nice cars!

I bought my Yellow ITR because it reminds me of the cornfields I plow.

Can't wait till I get to see that shifter first hand at work. I like it alot. Now only if Honda would put the E-Brake in the Civic like they did in the new CR-V....

To me, I think the new CTR has a lot of potential and I love the exterior and interior (I love the shift ****'s location). The interior is very simplistic as is the ITR. Honda does not let us down when it comes to design and efficiency. About the weight, I heard it's a little bit heavier than an ITR. I can't find the link but that's what I read somewhere. Can someone confirm this? Anyway, it's unfortunate that the US will not get a CTR, yet it will get the RSX-R, which I am still debating on getting. The future looks great, and I like the way Honda is going with its line-up of cars.

Yes, one of the reasons I want to move to the UK!

Re: new civic Type r? (padraf)
The new Civic Type R is now the best performing car for it's price in Europe. The only close competitor is the Renault Clio Sport 2.0L with only 170 HP which costs about the same (but the Renault is smaller and lighter). Everything else is either slower or much more expensive.......

I once drove an Alfa Romeo Spyder with the shifter mounted in that position. It is much more natural, believe it or not, than the conventional placement.

Re: new civic Type r? (EuroITR1689)
euro,
have you tested your R with a clio sport? - hehee, i only ask this: where's the 170hp they anounce?!? llollll... renault clio sport is one big joke, that's all i can say... the new and old wrx are very nice competitors for the R in europe, evo 6 and 7 are another league. wish i had a 6, i just love it's design.

Re: new civic Type r? (Integra Rated R)
Is the WRX that cheap in Iceland? Or is the CTR that expensive. In Holland the Civic costs 27270 Euros and the new WRX about 31000 Euros.
Darkteg, I have never tested a Clio, it's just what I have read and also seen on TV (Top Gear). The Clio costs 23000 Euros.... The Clio is so damn light (1010 kg).

Re: new civic Type r? (EuroITR1689)
the CTR is way to expensive over here. I dont know how to convert to Euro´s but the CTR is about 30,000 US $ and the WRX 31,000 US $ ..... so the performance "bargain" isnt that much of a bargain here...
