why most of integra turbos owners preffer to use the ls tranny?
i have a B20B block with a GSR head and a LS tranny an I am planing to put a turbo in my car my 3 gear it grinds should i repair and keep my LS tranny or get a GSR or B16A TRANNY??
It'll cost a little to get that 3rd gear fixed - go ahead and buy a GSR or B16 tranny if you want to go faster. Don't listen to **** that some of these guys might say about being in boost longer. If you like gas mileage though, you might drop in the 5th gear out of the LS tranny into your new tranny so you get the best of both worlds.
The LS transmission will be much better with boost as apposed to the B16 transmission, due to the longer gears..

This is the famous myth from 99 that was been spread from ricer campfires all across the country. The longer gear thoery is incorrect
Truth is you want acceleration, acceleration is what moves you. I have the Ls tranny now, and I hate it, 3-4th gear suck.
I miss my old Gsr tranny.
If your going to upgrade the Gsr is worth it, perfect for a street car

Because they are misinformed, probably by word of mouth, where they heard its better through the grapevine. Id bet money its from a messageboard bandit who regurgitated information they heard from their cousins uncles friends brother who runs 10's with a t66'd spoon motor.

I hate this aswell. Fools that think longer in turbo is better.
Acceleration is going faster. Plain and simple.
GSR is a great turbo tranny. ITR is pretty short and inconvenient on the highway, but still has very short gear ratios. Its personal choice. I sold my ITR tranny to get my GSR tranny for my turbo setup. Thats the decision I made, I wanted it more for the street and bit longer gearing (I had a 4.785 FD).
GSR tranny with upgraded clutch/flywheel

He understands!!
Although, tehcnically speaking, it is torque that gets you moving.
But yeah, if you want to accelerate faster, then you need a close ratio gear box.
The GS-R, Type R, and the Civic Si tranny will be great improvements!

Yeah im real familiar with Torque(see Sig)
but yeah I was just speaking in terms of gearing, shorter gears will get you moving faster than longer gears
As long as were all on the same page

Having personally swapped a B16 tranny into a turbo LS that was previously running the stock tranny, I would know. The car ran a solid 14.1 in the quarter with the LS tranny, and a solid 13.8 in the quarter with the B16 tranny with similar sixty foot times.

price for price your probably gonna pay around 500-600 for a used gsr tranny from a junkyard.
price of a new 3rd would be alot higher. work involved is dropping tranny, splitting the casing, removal of all shift mechanism and detents. pressing off 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, grab new 3rd (which is pricey from honda.) new blocking rings in the 3-4 syncro (if not every syncro assembly in the tranny) plus new bearings accross the board. new axle seals. put it all back together. new clutch and machined fly wheel since the tranny is down.
all that work should run you about 1200-1500ish, but it'll be a good running reliable tranny if done by someone who knows what they're doing. it'll be more expensive if done at a dealership. while you're in the tranny, you could get a 4.4 final in there and why not an LSD then have a pretty nice little set up. for the 4.4 final you'll need final drive pinion on output shaft pressed off and new one pressed on then you'll need ring gear on the diff taken off then have the new one put on. if you buy the LSD you just put the new 4.4 final ring gear on it or buy an LSD from a vtec tranny that has a 4.4 final ring already on it, then order the pinion from honda.
have fun

Well thank you for informing me! You are right, I did receive that information, well from this board actually. Your reasoning of it makes much more sense now. Thanks!
