Oil consumption: help me!!
My Integra 1995 RS (non-VTEC), with 85,000 miles consumes about 1 pint of oil when the oil is about 1,900 miles old until my oil change, which I make after 3,000 miles. This happens only when I rev it to 6,000-7000 RPM a couple of times per day... I use 5W30 (oil change at the dealer Honda)... Do I need to change the rings? Or head gasket? Or is it only normal with an engine this old.... Also, which type of oil would solve that problem?
Thanks for your help..
Thanks for your help..
Mine burns about the same amount...1 to 1.5 qts on my GS-R. I still dunno what's causing it. I've replaced my PCV Valve (not that the old one was bad), but it still has the same habit. I haven't had a chance to run a compression check or a leakdown test....maybe that'll give me a couple of leads.
What I notice is that the oil level starts decreasing after about 1500 miles, right when the oil starts to get significantly brown (instead of the light tan of the Mobil 1) and then it gets really bad after the oil is dark brown. After I change the oil, the used oil reeks of fuel. I had the garage door closed and my head was starting to float from working next to the full drain pan for so long.
In another scenario, a formerly turbo'd GS-R (with everything but the GReddy 310cc injectors removed), the oil got fuel soaked and the engine burned it up in less than 1000 miles...but there might have been a slow leak somewhere too that was exasperated by prolonged 80 mph driving.
In both cases, the engines seem to be running rich. I adjusted the ignition timing to 16 deg BTDC and in the process confirmed that there were no pending DTC's (CEL's). Hmmm...so where do I begin? Maybe I'll check the fuel pressure, and if that checks out...then I'll get a V-AFC and tune it on a dyno with a wideband 0xygen sensor to lean it out.

its totally normal especially on the ITR/GSR's beacuse of the high reving capabilities. i just checked my oil today and i was down 3 qts!!! and my car is brand new. thank god for synthetic
Whoa! 3 qts down!? THe oil capacity on the engine is only 4.5qts.
I can tell when I'm getting low on oil when I warm start the car. The oil pressure light goes off noticeably quicker when the oil is at full capacity. If it takes more than a second to go off, then I'd check the oil level.
