Default v-afc

i heard the vtec on a rsx (base) hits at 2200rpm

can i just get a v-afc and raise the engagement point to 4000, at least? would that affect my engine negatively in any way? i need to be conservative about my gas.

Yes you can just change the point of x-over.

your acceleration will be affected, usually vafc are used for tuning the "true vtec crossover." type s engages at 6k rpm i think?

i'm just concerned about wasting gas. that's the only reason i want to raise the vtec crossover point.

so how does this i-vtec differ from the regular vtec? sometimes when i go into first gear with more gas, the car accelerates faster. when i go into first softly, the car takes its time. is that where the i in i-vtec comes in?

the i parts stands for variable cam timing. but i wouldn't recommend raising the vtec point. the lower cam engagement is only meant for idling and to reduce engine torque at extremely low RPM where it can damage your engine. yes, driving hard at low RPM causes a lot of engine stress. a neat application of my strength of materials class.

raising the vtec higher will severely kill your power. to the point of almost flooring it just pull away in traffic. the engine wasn't designed for those extremely conflicting conditions (wide throttle, low mass flow). in all reality, it will kill your mileage.
