pinging/tapping sound at high rpm
Hello. My fifth gen prelude makes a slight pinging/tapping type of noise at ~6800 and up rpm. I notice this noise only occurs after i installed an aem short ram; but does not occur with the stock air box with and without the resonator removed. I tried putting the stock air box back in and the noise was gone. Now my engine has an aem cai, high flow cat and an apexi n1 catback exhaust; and that slight tapping/pinging noise is still present when I am close to redline. I had a shop to install the cai, every component that came with the intake was put in. As for the intake pipe, I checked the mounting of the intake and it was mounted secure enough not to have too much freeplay to hit anything around it. Like i said in my previous post, this slight tapping/pinging sound also occurred with the short ram intake. I am just worried if this will cause any engine damage. btw this car always use premium gas. sorry for being so long... please share your insight to this matter. thanks!
