AEM CAI vs stock air box as sound deadeners?
I have just installed an AEM CAI on my 2000 Civic Si. I now hear somewhat of a grinding noise when I change gears. It's not very loud or noticeable but you can hear it inside the car. At first I thought it was the intake rubbing against something but I have checked everything and can't find anywhere that it could be rubbing.
I am guessing that the stock air box served as a sound deadener for the transmission and that the noise I hear is actually coming from the tranny.
Could my transmission be this loud?

i would think that the sound is from the vibrations of the CAI tubing..have u bolt d down the brace on the piping?

I would think that if you added an intake and you had a tranny problem you would be less likely to hear it now, due to the sound coming from the intake. Stock intake is quiter. I also suggest trying to see if something is lose.

check to see if the tube is rubbing againsts metal of the hole your filter is in.
thats what happened to my friend's. it vibrated against the metal and made a hole in the tubing.

yea i would check the connection to the throttle body, and that bolt on the right hand side where it secures to the car

I'm sure bagelw will jump in here at some point - but I can vouch for everything being bolted down tight. We got everything in there pretty tight and I think he even put some stick-on felt-type deals that you put on the bottom of chairs, on difference places where the CAI would touch the chasis to see if that would clear it up - and it didn't. Is it possible the CAI is not close enough to the TB inside the rubber hose? How close should the actual CAI tube be to the TB, or should it be touching it even?

I figured it out.
The AEM was rubbing against the hole going in front of the wheel. I just couldn't see it through some wiring. I ended up putting more washers on the mount to raise the filter up and lined the hole with rubber. Why doesn't AEM make these fit better?
Anyways, the CAI is on and looks, sounds, and feels great. I got one of the new polished ones. It looks very, very nice.

also
the friggin k&n filter broke/fell off its metal plating holding the filter element somewhere on our way up to austin
piece of shiet!!!!
we used the rubber thing for the filter (the one that broke) and put it where the tube went into the hole for the cai so it wouldnt rub against it
