Headers SOHC
hey all. i have a 99 civic hx, which sports a 1.6 SOHC. i want to get a high flow catalytic converter, but i realized that it's one piece with the stock header and has two oxigen sensors, one on top, right after the headers and one on the bottom, after the catalytic converter. what should i do? since i live in nyc, i need the damn catalytic converter. any suggestions??? maybe just get headers, but will my car pass inspection??? any feedback greatly appreciated. peace.
You should be able to remove the stock header pipe from the cat, but make sure the tubing size on the new cat matches the stock header. When you get your high flow cat and since your car is OBDII you will most likely have to get an additional bung welded so the second O2 sensor will have somewhere to go.

i appreciate the feedback, but you haven't told me anything valuble. and the stock header and the catalytic converter, as i mentioned in my original post, are ONE PIECE. on your ex it might be different. this is an HX. and i know that i will need to put the second oxygen sensor somewhere, i also say that in my original post.

my question wasn't about how to pass the inspection.
guys, read the question before you slap useless info together. please. i know you're trying to help, but your ignorance isn't doing such a good job. so make sure you know what anyone is talking about in their posts before replying with some bs.

on my 98 Civic DX we got a EX Header , EX cat , EX mid and rear section.. we had the 2nd O2 sensor wire extended so it could reach the cat.. hope this helps you.. check out the civic here:

The EX and HX headers should not be different. If you would like specific answers you need to be more specific in what you need answers on. Don't expect to get all the answers you need in one post, sometimes it takes a little of your own brains to figure it out, like puting the pieces of a puzzle together.

thanks, sorry. didn't mean to sound like an a**hole. i'm just wondering if headers are available for my type of engine in the aftermarket. DC Sports, i know, makes headers, but only for the ex model. i'm positive that it won't fit the hx. is the cat a separate piece on the ex model or not?? if it is, then i don't think it can be done. but the fact that the stock header and the catalytic converter on my car, the hx, is one piece i'm definately sure of. i took it off to see. there are three parts in the exhaust manifold, on my hx. out of the engine 1- the header and the cat, from that 2-middle piece, with a heat shield, that's bent around the engine at about a 70 degree angle that brings the piping below the car, and 3-catback with muffler. that's what i see under my car. so my question is, just headers or headers + catalytic converter for my hx if it's possible to fit ?? thanx
your stock exhaust manifold is the same as the cx, dx and lx it has the cat built into it. u can use the header from an ex and than just get a high flow cat if u wanted to. my friend has an hx and did exactly that. so the answer is headers and cat.
