HID - High Intensity Discharge

HID's can be retrofitted to fit in any fixture. They can be purchased in a kit. You can stick them in a normal socket, but the range of light will blind everyone else.

Projectors are the half-dome looking glass covers you see on projector headlamps. Cars that come stock with HID have a peice of metal in the projector that cuts off the beam of light halfway up, thus not blinding others on the road.

Example of a retrofit of a projector in a normal headlamp.

The projector is simply the lens..Its the part that looks like a bubble..that is the projector..HID in simplicity is the light bulbs that go in the projector.

HID on a regular non-projector headlight.. would be really really bright right? i get it.. the projector is that bubble thing thats in front of the light bulb.. makes it less bright so it doesn't blind people as much? i hope i got it right lol..

so do HIDs work for all those different types of corners? some have different size holes like in that ;for an example - http://www.v6performance.net/f...rners

okay ALSO.. what are halogens?</TD></TR></TABLE>
Halogen are the bulbs you already have.
They suck.

HID will give him another problem unless he does it the right way.
right way meaning retrofit.
Otherwise he will blind others and when the cops see him he will get cited.

Yup Yup....shorti what do you mean by corners?? and what spider man is saying about doing a retro fit is because of "cut off"..stock projectors that you find in lets say an A4 have a cut off that doesnt allow the HID light beam to scatter everywhere and blind other drivers..the cheap APC **** that you find doesnt have cut off and neither do your stock housings. This meaning that unless you do a retro fit for a HID kit you are going to have a scattered beam which will lead to blinding and ticket..make sense??

A projector retro fit will project the light more so your beam pattern isn't crap like it can be with just tossing HIDs in the stock housings without some kind of glair guard of some sort.

if you dont do a retrofit, the beam pattern wont come out as good as you would see on the new TL's (2004), but if you dont have the knowledge to do a retrofit, you can modify the shield to give you a output close enough to a older model TL (reflector type)... i used a shield off a 03 maxima and it gave a better output with less hotspots... but you would need to cut certain parts of the shield to get it right, the lights scattered on the floor but not at on coming traffics eyes.. im happy with it...

Look at the 1st reply to your thread that is a retrofit.
If you want to see more pics
search.
I just searched it last night, cause I'm doing a retrofit.

think of retrofit like...

you are born with 10/20 visons, now you gonna "retrofit" someone's 20/20 eye ***** in you eye socket to make it perfect

sorry for the thread jack, but did you have any hot spots? i have the same kit but a 4300 on my 94, and it had ALOT of spots everywhere until i changed the shield... but i noticed at startup, "purplish blue" color all the spots were gone... and gave a better lightout put due to the coloring imo atleast....

I have an HID system out of an older TL with modified housings to fit the bulbs and they don't have hot spots, just nice and bright. i just had to play around with the placement so see where they worked best.

I don’t know about the rest of the people posting here but I’ve had my HID’s in for about 6 months now and I haven’t had one problem with them or with cops. I swapped out my stock light housing unit for a clear marker light one so it’s essentially the same as an OEM housing unit (without the orange marker at the bottom). The HID kit that I purchased came with a HID Bulb that fit right into my stock socket (no modification), a starter (to send the current to the bulb) and a ballist that plugs right into my stock light socket (no modification once again). To install the HID kit all I had to do was find a place to mount the ballists and I decided to place my just behind the rebar. A bumper removal was required but that’s easy work. I did it by myself and it took me 45 mins only because I had a hard time putting the bumper on by myself. With 2 people you could install your lights in 15 mins I’m sure.

My HIDs are 8000K which means that the color of my lights are a bluish white tint. I paid $305USD for them and they are worth every penny! I don’t care if I have any hot spots or glare because I want my HIDs to light up the road, but I don’t think I have too much of a “hot spot” issue. The projector lamps (housing fixture) will allow you to diffuse light from the HID better but you’re looking at another couple hundred to do that. My biggest recommendation is get a kit that is plug&play, that means no cutting wires or retrofitting housing to hold the bulb etc. Good luck.

absolutely! It's the only way to go. My gf and I just purchased another pair for her car but the price went up a bit from when I bought them. I go through a wholesaler myself but expect to pay around the $400 range tax in. I know there's this dealer in LA that's selling theirs for $550+ installed but personally I think it's a rip off. They are the most expensive HID dealer in town and yet people are gullable enough to go to them. Hope this helps. (I have pics of my HID set and install but I haven't had a chance or bandwidth to post them up yet)

any HID kit should fit with a little fitment issues only, if its not a 9006, but if youre **** and want the 9006 bracket, check ebay a guy sells em for 30$'s...

if you havea dremel get some blown 9006 bulbs and cut off the housing on it and glue the ish on the hid...
