sounds like the bearing in the distrubtor. and if thats it, unfortunately i dont believe honda sells just a bearing. you need a whole new distributor.

though i have heard of people sourcing bearings that work...

I just had the exact same problem Dizzy is soon to fail. You need a new dizzy. I know the sound you are talking about. it becomes very annoying.

Yep. both of those guys are correct.

You will need a new distibutor soon.

I suggest http://www.distributorking.com - I run one of theirs in my 1990 hatchback and it is top quality stuff.

You can buy their entire assembled dizzy complete with coil, ignitor, rotor button, cap, and base for the cost of a bare dizzy base from Honda. Honda's doesn't come with anything listed except for the base itself.

yeah i've had a toasted dseries dizzy also,

they die alot.

maybe you didnt tear it apart enough when you opened it up?
it you just took off the cap you might not see the damage.

more importantly, why dont you just take the distributor off,(you dont need to take it apart just off the car) then spin it. It should spin smoothly without much resistance.

if its like turning a pepper shaker, and makes noises and such, then yep its definetely toast or on the way to being toast.

170bux is alot for a distributor in my opinion,
if I was running a heavily modded allmotor dseries setup, then yeah its probly worth it, cuz you'd end up blowing dizzies all the time if you just kept geting used oem ones.

but for a simple setup, i'd say just find someone selling a used stock one for like 30bux or so. thats what I did.

but yeah, from what i've read, the distributor king distributors are a bit tougher than oem ones ,and should put up with the extra heat generated by a gnarly setup better.

when replacing the dizzy, do you have to mess with the timing again, or can you just remove it and replace it with the new one?
