Default How to check to piping leak??

I idle just fine...but when i hit boost....I loss up to 50% of pressure by redline. Someone has suggested its maybe a piping leak somewhere from the turbo to the intake manifold. Is there any tests i can do to try it out?

u want to make a boost leak tester. get a rubber hose from home depo or lowes. a blastic pipe end the screwin type the same size as the rubber pipe connector.

then buy one screwin type vacume fitting and one male to male vacume fitting.

put the plastic end cap into the rubber hose connector. clamp it down using the screw clamps provided with the hose. then drill a hole in the plastic end cap, and screw the vacume fitting in. then get a rubber hose the same size as the vacume fitting and connect that to the male/male fitting and connect that to an air pump. then clamp the rubber hose connector to your turbo inlet or your charge pipe off of the turbo pressureize the system and try and get 20psi without it leaking. find your leaks with the system presurized using hearing and soapy water.

So you're reaching full boost, then it tapers off? If that's the case, maybe your turbo is sized too small.

Iam not getting up to full boost....It make it close but starts to fall...Iam gonna try this method posted above. I have already made sure vacume lines are fine and no exhaust leaks.

a runing car and spraying soapy water works well too for leak detecting..

what kind of couplers are u using? and how much boost are u pushing?

if ur using the rubber home depot ones then maybe its leaking from one of them if ur running alot of boost. get some silicone couplers and t-bolts

Iam only running 8psi...I was fine last year, so iam guessing over winter storage 1 or more of the couplings got worn out.
Wouldnt soap and water hurt the engine if it got sucked in?

Here's one I just made. A threaded pvc pipe and a threaded pcv pipe cap I bought from the plumbing section of my local hardware store and a snap-in tubless tire valve I got from Kragen auto parts. Cost less than $10. I just drilled the right size hole through the threaded cap, pushed in the snap-in tire valve, then screwed on the cap onto the threaded pvc pipe.

Then at the beginning of my ic piping I inserted the other side to inside of 2" silicone coupler and secured it down with one of the t bolt clamps . I set the air compressor to less than 20 psi and pressurized the ic piping. If you don't have one you can use a bicycle pump. I listened for leaks and you can also spray a mixture of water and dish soap over any connections or welds to visually see any bubbles indicating a leak.

It's easy just make sure you get the right diameter size for your silicone coupling. I used small bit to drill a pilot hole then the right size for the valve. Come on guys you can't be that lazy!

I used this method a while back on some cooler pipes I made. It worked very well. The only problem I had was I used a cap on the other end of the pipe ( to seal the pipe off) added 15psi from the compressor, low and behold as the pipe pressurized the cap blows off. The cap about blew my head off. Scared the **** out of me

It was my problem. I have since fixed the leaks. I made one outta a air hose with trigger. And made it similar to the first one posted. So I can control the air flow.
Thanks to you bmcc72
