Default Routing rad expansion hose across turbo?

I have to route the smaller diameter rad hose or expansion tank hose across the top of a turbo. Has anyone got any tips on how I can stop it melting? Silicone hose heat wrapped is all I can come up with.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated

Cheers

Solid or flexible metal radiator hose or heat wrap the **** out of it. Personally, i'd go with a metal 'hose' instead (like the one in the link)

So you mean a metal braided rubber hose, or the type they use for oil feeds on turbos? I just thought I could use some metal tube going across the turbo area and then connect it either end with silicone hose. Possibly with a bit of heat wrap on the metal tube/piping also.

Yep, basically either a flexible braided steel hose or a metal pipe (mild steel or Al, idk) in the diameter of a standard radiator hose.

It is a h22 in a 89 CRX so not alot of room to play with. Its original location behind the headlight will do for now and hopefully will clear the alternator belt. I have had to push the alternator right over using a custom bracket as the alternator plug was less than an inch from the downpipe.

You could get creative and route a new hose around the front of the radiator. Or relocate the overflow tank as already suggested. Companies like DEI make heat wrap for hoses too.

Silicone hose on its own really can take the heat, I have the same deal with a Crx and simply used the generic silicone hose from siliconeintake.com as my hose passes right over the turbo but does not touch and it holds up fine daily.

As long as it doesnt touch you are good, if its going to touch your going to need a foot of the foil like sleeves but this isnt a huge issue

Cheers for the replies. Does the expansion tank work on vaccum? Basically what im wondering is if I can route the hose down then back up again or will that spoil the flow required for it to work? If it doesnt need to be flat/horizontal then I can route it along the top of the intercooler and will be away from the turbo.

I think you may be calling a coolant overflow tank an expansion tank. Expansion tanks are different all together. Our hondas (afaik, dunno about really new ones) all use overflow bottles. In which case, coolant just pukes into it when the system pressure gets too high (too hot) coolant doesnt flow back afaik

Coolant does flow back into the radiator during cooldown (thats why the hose under the overflow cap goes to bottom of tank, people take that hose off and the system stops functionning properly)

Yes you can have the hose routed down and wherever you need to run it to make it work for your application

all Hondas use a recovery type tank, coolant will even flow into the tank under normal conditions, thats why the maximum fill mark on the tank, it's called an expansion tank, when the coolant gets to operating temp some of it is designed to flow into the tank, when the cooling system cools off, vacuum is formed in the system and the coolant is pulled back into the radiator
