cant get axel nut off have tried 3 methods !!!!!HELP!!!!!
okay im really getting pissed now, my axel boots were ripped but never had a problem with the axels... installed my energy motor mounts... just the 2 front at first... it was coo... i got hondata intake mani gasket, so installed rear when i had intake mani off... after intake mani/rear mount install, passanger axel is clickin, so ima change both...plus hella vibration while driving at a certain rpm(not mph) in any gear. Therefor i have reason to believe that one or both axels are also bent so im trying to change and cant get that god damn axel nut off! i undid that crevice on each side that they pond in with a hammer to lock the nut... and then started at it, i have a 4 foot long pip that i put on my 3/4 inch ratchet that i was using to try and break the nut loose with, i ended up first breaking a 3/4 inch extention!, and then trying again without an extention i ended up breaking a 32mm socket! in half!!!... got another socket today... went to friends house with car to try with a compressor and air ratcher... his compressor goes to 100 psi and it wasnt going anywhere just letting the air out cause not enough pressure to turn it, we tried that electric impact wrench to nothing... what the hell should i do!!!!!!!! i havent drove my car in 2 weeks cause im afraid these axels are gonna snap on me any minute!!!
Go rent a 1 inch drive ratchet and the appropriate impact socket. Then get a few five foot long pieces of pipe and some connectors. Put the ratchet on the axle nut, then put about fifteen feet of piping on it and get a friend to stabilize it. Then jump on the pipe as hard as you can to break it loose in one motion.

i didnt read the first post, but the way ive seen it done without an impact is either put it in 5th and have a guy on the brakes and you use a 10ft long breaker bar, of if you are by yourself, put a nice size flat head screw driver in the middle of the caliper, where you can fit it in the middle of the rotor and then use a 10 ft breaker bar.
and dont worry, no matter how you approach it, that NUT WILL COME OFF

It took me 2 straight days of jumping on a breaker bar with a 4 foot pipe on the end to break mine loose. Try spraying it with lots of PB blaster, and make sure someone is stepping on the brake or the car will just move forward with you.
Another solution would be to go to a shop and have them break it off with their air gun and re-torque it for you. Most places are not willing to do this though.

i called up mercedes road side assistance
have 1 person the brakes, one with their foot up against the stocket keeping it firm against the axle nut, and a third pushing down on a 4' breaker bar. Use quality tools such as snap on. I broke a 1/2" "PT" breaker bar doing it, the snap on survived and did the job
make sure you unstake the nut first.

yes i unstaked the nuts... and used alot of pb blaster, i did search on this topic... maybe i'll buy a 1/2 inch craftsmen extention tomorrow, and socket... cause if i break those they will give me new ones... =**( and just to clear this up u still go lefty loosey right? thats what i been doing my uncle told me perhaps the nut is reverse threaded

Use either a 1/2 drive breaker bar with a strong socket or a 3/4 inch rachet w/ suitable socket to get on the nut.
I then positioned the bar/rachet so that I could put the end of my hydraulic jack under the bar end to lift it upwards. Lift your jack slowly so you are lifting in line with the bar as you lift. after much pressure, the nut broke loose with a pop.
good luck.

Take it to a shop with big *** air guns. Give the guy $20 and ask him to get the nut off, then re-torque it to 100 ft-lbs.
Pop the axle out of the tranny, undo the lower balljoing, swivel the hub away from the car. That was hard work, drink a beer. Take a Sawzall to the axle immediately behind the hub. Axle drops to floor. Laugh and drink another beer. Take a hammer and pound the remaining stub out of the hub from behind. You deserve another beer.
if you are removing the axle to replace it, and you are SURE you are replcing it, you can just drill out the axle nut.
what I mean is take a nice sharp 1/4" drill bit and attack the locatiion where the nut is staked, that will give you a good location to bite into, the axle is harder thn the nut so the drillbit will wnder/walk into the nut and drill thru it, also taking out some threads on the end of the axle, but at least it gets the nut off.
listening to Bad Brains Rock For Life while drilling will speed up this procedure

I broke a few breaker bars on my old civic ones....I finally broke down and bought some air tools.....best investment I ever made. BTW an air ratchet won't do ****....get a decent impact gun that will provide 4-500lbs of torque.
good luck
