What happens when the axle nut wins....
Arghhh! I've been trying to get this damn axle nut off for a week. I even went and got an electric impact driver, THAT didn't work. Finally started jumping up and down on my 3ft breaker bar and this is what happened:
I fed up!! Now can I come use your air tools Tom!!! PLEASE!

ohhh you have one of those...be prepared for more broken tools.
I personally broke 3 of those exact bars, and 3 sockets.
I broke a socket that was welded to a 6 foot square tube of steal. Only got one of them off. I finally got the hook up from Jared and he took her off with an impact at his work. It took a big **** gun to get it.
And i tried all the tricks too.
BTW..Good luck and dont wast anymore time. Get some Ingersol- Rand power to it it will come off

take your car and the socket to a place that changes truck tires. Bring them a dozen donuts if necessary and ask them to loosen that nut for you. Then just tighten it hand tight with a rachet and drive home.

Yep, been there, done that. With my 240 I remember one of the spindle nuts was on there SO tight I took 500ft-lbs of torque that my impact wrench can crank out...and it didn't turn the nut one bit. I broke 1 impact socket, 1 regular socket, 1 extension.
It sucked...I had to dremel the ******* nut off...and it was a beefy nut too!!!

did you pry back the part of the nut that was pounded in the recessed part of the axle????
If not, then that's your problem

Re: What happens when the nut wins....
Of course I "unstaked" the nut. That's just common sense.
I was actually standing on the bar (granted, it's only a three footer) and jumping up and down. That's how it broke.
Ingersoll Rand has a pretty nice electric impact, but that bitch is, like, $450. I was considering getting a little compressor and air gun. We'll see....

Re: (99EKhatch)
also use some penetrating spray, like liquid wrench, some heat and a strong 1/2 drive or 3/4 drive craftsman with a 4 ft breaker

I'll get it...it just pisses me off because the amount I spend on tools and little ****, I could have just paid someone else to do it. But, I keep telling myself that I will need these tools at some other point. So it's an investment.

Re: (eg cookiemonster)
i did that too
just buy a craftman, try it, break it, return it, get another or get a 3/4 in breaker bar and get my dad's fat *** to jump on the end of a 6foot piece of steel tubing. that's what i always do
good luck!!!

Re: What happens when the axle nut wins.... (Milano_EH3)
all you need is a 4-5 foot fence post or something like, put it on the rachet,do not jump up and down on it but slowley step up on it,once your on it just slowley start to bounce,it will come loose i guarantee it.
make sure the notch in the nut it bent out so it does not catch.stick a large flathead in your brake rotor,to keep it from turning.
i use to bo through the same ****,after trial and error i ,i use this method and its fool proof.

Re: What happens when the axle nut wins.... (civictypenos)
Some guy once posted this idea... put your wheels back on, take the center caps out... put your breaker bar and socket on the nut, and place you jack near the end of you breaker bar, and use the weight of the car to break the spindle nut loose.
I use air tools for that though, 200 dollar compressor and a 1/2 in impact, and of course PB blaster is your friend... did you already remove the divit on the spindle nut?

Hell, you need a 6ft fence pole atleast. Worked for me...

haha.....be glad you didnt land on your face after it broke..lol
i didnt have air tools as well so we heated it up for about 30 secs with a torch and then it took 2 ppl to break it loose

Re: What happens when the axle nut wins.... (Emerika)
I cant even get the staked part out WHen they took the axle off when i bought it, they really made a good indent.
