Default what to do next... taking suggestions

I have a 98 Integra LS and debating on what to do next. All my mods are listed on my webpage (in signature) to get a better idea of what i have right now. My 2 choices are...

1. Getting Crower 403's with springs and retainers, bore throttle body to 62mm, skunk2 intake manifold and lightened flywheel and probably a bottle warmer for the nitrous!

2. LS/Vtec setup

My motor only has 57K on it and is in excellent condition so probably won't need to rebuild if i did go LS/VTEC.

I have ruled out turbo because of cost, long term reliability and only 8 psi

I just want something quick and reliable (just like everyone else) Im not looking for something super fast. My number 1 concern is reliability.

Also approx. how much for a LS/Vtec set up? ive been crunching numbers but im just curious what you guys have approximatly spent.

If i was to go with LS/VTEC would it be safe to still run nitrous?

Sorry for all the questions but im just trying to get the best bang for the buck and open for suggestions. Please no stupid sh*t either!!! thanks

It looks like you know what you wanna do, it's up to you to choose. LS/VTEC is nice, if properly built. What are your goals for this car, those Crowers would make a nice addition, are you gonna port and polish your head, that would be a good addition with the cams, your gonna need the proper valvetrain, and cam gears to dial your car in. Keep us posted with your progress.

two things:

1st, for the cost of building a reliable ls/vtec setup, you can get a just as reliable turbo setup and more power to boot.....even at just 8 psi.....though as you learn more about turboLS setups you'll see with just some simple strengthening to the block you can go 10 to 12 psi....do a search on tuboLS setups int eh FI section and the integra section......also check out http://www.cheesefrog.com

2nd, a cheap ls/vtec setup will not be reliable (if by reliable you mean longevity), I've heard many horror stories bout ls/vtec (that were built on the fly) gone bad. Yet, I've seen first hand LSturbos running hard and long.

good luck with your choice, and do some more research before making your final decision

I'll second that.

I've spoken to a lot of people that picked all motor over boost and every single one of them regrets not boosting at the start. Sigh if they only had a chance to do it all over again. I was in the same situation as you. I was thinkin going LS/VTEC with reinforced bottom end but I figured it'll take too much time/work/tuning and money and I'm on my way to putting together my turbo kit. Took awhile but I finally made up my mind.

Apparently you never spoke with me.

I did have a chance to do it all over again, I sold my WRX that layed over 300 horses to the ground and bought an ITR that is staying all motor.

Yea my bad but when I said I spoke people I actually meant people I know personally, no online people and stuff. Sorry If didn't make that clear. Not everyone feels that way but a lot of my friends did.

WoW All motor Type R over a 300HP WRX that's some crazy stuff. props on your set up. Care to elaborate on the Type R? just curious. I have a lot of respect for all motor cars.

if your number one concern (I think you meant "priority") is reliability, then you contradict yourself by considering an ls/vtec. I have rarely heard of an ls/vtec being reliable. Only a handful of folks have had theirs done right and without a hitch...

Maybe im wrong and youre truly a great mechanic, but then again, if you were, you wouldnt be asking anonymously on an internet forum. Another g-wiz thread

Just my .02 like everyone else, but if you are considering laying down serious money it would seem easier just to buy a real VTEC engine if thats the route you want to go. I only bought a b16a1, but in the end it seemed much easier than doing the conversion, and I still plan to add a turbo down the road (my wife will only let me spend so much at a time and this month its suspension).

On the other hand if you dont have to have VTEC, then I would go the turbo route, with some good cams and good engine management, that could be a really fun car to drive.

thanks for all the reply's... i have heard that the LS/Vtec set-up isn't that reliable (longterm) and have read post with people having problems and that is whats holding me back. I have also thought about just buying a complete vtec motor and doing a complete swap but haven't really looked into that. It does make sense and would be easier, but maybe more money?

I know there is alot of people on this forum with the crower 403 cams if you could give me some feedback that would be great. Also anyone have these cams or any cams and spraying? let me know, thanks
