How can you tell what year the engine is?
But where is the VIN stamped? I would guess the head but, if the VIN is on the block then wouldn't you be able to tell what year the block is by that? Okay, the VIN is on the head that is how you tell and the block just has the engine code on it.
Wonder if anyone has taken a JDM B18C and added a 1 to make it B18C1 to pass the inspectors?

check the VIN plate, I think it's the 10th digit:
1989=K
1990=L
1991=M
1992=N
1994=R
1995=S
1996=T
1997=V
1998=W
1999=X
2000=Y
2001=1
2002=2

If you look on the head right above the header and to the left, you'll see 4 circles with 2# in each one. you read them from left to right.
actually, the didnt start putting the vin plate on motors til around 96, anything before that wont have it, so you could get a new vin plate, rivet it to an old block, and then use a new head and have a motor that would pass.
Hmmm, JDM might be the way to go then....go looking at a junk yard and pull the vin off of the block and head and make the JDM that.......nah, too much trouble I just get a damn USDM.
