Default question for a/f ratio specialist

Is anyone aware if the stoich combustion temperature (at part throttle) is too high for a honda engine (h22a in my case) with the EGR removed ?

(I assumed that you know the purpose of an EGR system... EGR lowers the combustion temp, thus reduces NOx since they are mainly produced at high temp AND allow to run stoich a/f without the high heat associated with stoich a/f ratio for fuel economy and environnemental issues).

Default Re: question for a/f ratio specialist (SRVMAN)

think of it this way....

if combustion temps rise too high...the engine is going to preignite which is a given.
If you have the resources; make a chip with ignition maps on the conservative side so you can get an idea of how hot temps are. Once you have a good idea just add back ignition advance untill you come to a desired endpoint.

If you cant do it this way i would just retard the distributor a few degrees before firing the motor up
