Default ANYONE who knows ANYTHING about clutches

alright, i'm trying to accept the fact that my clutch problem might be the pressure plate spring even though i still think it may be as simple as the return spring right above the pedal. i talked to a guy at my local honda dealer and he tried to tell me one of the pressure plate springs may have fallen out of the assembly. is this even possible? which type of spring do civics even have? i would think the whole thing would go to **** if a diaphragm spring crapped out. my clutch has less tension now than it did before but, as i've said before, it still completely disengages/engages, the pedal doesn't stick, still goes all the way in and all the way out, and there are no fluid leaks as far as i can tell(reservoir is full). i could feel some of the tension coming back yesterday and it almost felt back to normal until i got stuck in stop/go, 2mi/h traffic for 45 minutes and it went back to hardly any tension. anyone have experience with this mess?

Yes - it is possible for the springs to come out of the assembly. I have had this happen twice on my Prelude. Symptoms were sometimes clutch would act normal, other times couldn't even press the clutch in, and sometimes I couldn't get it to dis-engage.

damn, this is messin with my head. another mechanic told me it may be the pressure plate spring but i just dont have the engagement issues. i've been tryin to do mad research so i dont get taken when i bring it in but i can't come up with any definate answers. i'ma prolly try replacin the tension spring in the pedal assembly to see if thats what it is first. i'm prayin its that simple. i was inspectin the pedal assembly and these look suspect. one of the springs looks like its def outta wack which i assume would change the tension in the pedal but not effect anything else.

When you checked for leaks, did you check inside the cabin. Sometimes, since the master cylinder leaks inside and (usually) very slowly, it is easy to miss the little amount of hydraulic fluid leaking. Did you also check the slave cylinder?

how did you treat the clutch before you noticed the symptoms? high RPM launches can sometimes make a hub drop a spring.

only way to know for sure is to drop the tranny... you could learn to do it yourself and it'll save you huge amounts of money in the future.

thats one of the reasons i'm so pissed. i BABY this thing. i havent even spun the tires intentionally in the 6 months i've had it. i did check for cylinder leaks, but i'ma check again today just in case i'm nuts. i aint even tryin to front like i know **** about cars, but i'm tryin my hardest to learn tho. thatd be dope if i could drop the tranny myself but i live in a tiny *** apartment with just basic tools and no experience. i just wish i knew what was wrong and how bad i should be worrying about it cuz i've been drivin to work like this for a week now. haha. nothins gotten worse so far. i hope thats a good sign.

if you are going to take it to a shop, and have them pull the trans, just get a new clutch, i dont know what your setup is, but a new clutch is always good to have. you can get a exedy stage 1 raceing clutch (thats disk, p plate, throwout bearing, and aligment tool) for like $250. that clutch holds up to like 300 hp. If your going to get a new P plate, might as well get the kit for a few bucs more.

good luck mate.

true. if it comes down to that i'll def just replace everything. my cars completely stock right now performance wise. i was planning on doing the suspension first but of course this is a major setback if i have to spend all my savings just to keep it running right. guess thats a lil more important than shocks and springs tho. haha. i appreciate the help.
