Default is there any symptoms of headgasket going bad??

Sup guys... I asked this question because I think my HG is going to give up soon. Heres what happens, my engine's temp goes up when I keep my rpm to 3500-4000rpm on the freeway for about 30 mins, but, there will be times that it will not even move and stays at normal temp??? Its weird! I already changed the thermostat and today I will try to disconnect the water cooled in my turbo and test drive it again, maybe it adds up temp to my engine??? Can anyone please help me figure out what my problem or is that a symptom to get ready for a new HG??? Any opinions are welcome. TIA!

My old car did the same thing before the headgasket let go. And it let go in the middle of nowhere. You might as well check it out now before it leaves you stranded on the side of the road.

the fan is turning on properly and the coolant is clean (no oil) and I also took off the rad cap and start the engine for about 15 mins to let all the air pocket out. I dont know what else to do Could it be the water line in my turbo??? But I've had it ever since I started the car and the temp was fine. It started 2 weeks ago, I was on my way to my gf house and all of a sudden my temp gauge went pass over the half I pulled over and let it cool down for a few mins and on my way back home it did'nt move at all, it was in the normal temp!.... then I changed the thermostat and test drove it again last week and the temp went up again but I turned my heater all the way and the temp went back to its normal position. Then after a few mins, I turned the heater off and everything was fine again! It did'nt move a bit! Its f#cking wierd!! Please someone help me!!!! Should I change my HG now before its too late or is it something else????????

you try bleeding your coolant system?

perhaps you have some trapped air in there which is causing your engine to have spaztic heater gauge issues.

if your h/g was or is going bad:

- you're car would puff out a degree of white smoke (burning water/oil)
- while the car is running, remove the rad-cap and see if there's airbubbles bubbling and/or brown water (oil) > tall-tail sign

are you running an intercooler at all ?

How much bubbles are you talking about??? Cause when I did that for like 15 mins there's some bubbles that would come out but not that much, and the coolant is clean. And yes, im running intercooler.

Thanks!

turbo makes more heat, make sure your entire cooling system is good to go,maybe more fuel would help bring temps down..

If your getting bubbles once it full, try reving it up, a leaking headgasket will produce more bubble when you do. I would count on it being a head gasket sometimes they dont show themselves, have you inspected your sparkplugs lately they might tell you exactly what/where the problem is.

those plugs look good.

Once my friend had a blown headgasket, he would overheat at random and we did compression tests and leakdown tests for weeks. The plugs all looked great too. but on day we checked them again and it was clear as day. It took a month to show itself but it was overheating most of the time. The head was warped because of the heat.

what radiator are you running? has it been changed anytime you know of? Also do a compression test that will tell you more if its the head gasket or if its your cooling system

i think a headgasket change isnt too difficult and if youve never done it before, youll learn alot by doing it...

it wouldnt hurt, put it that way...

did you check your radiator cap? i'm experienced the same problem last week. the temp would go up while stuck in traffic and would go to normal once the car is moving already. coolant in the reservoir would run low every day but i don't have any white smoke nor any coolant mixed with oil inside the radiator, reservoir or the oil cap and dipstick.

a friend suggested i replace the rad cap since it looked worn already and i did and so far the temp stayed right where it should be.

hth.
