a simple suspension explanation?
I've got an 88 CRX Si on Tein SS Coilovers. It's lowered around 2.5 - 3 inches and the dampers are set on full soft. When I (I'm 160 lbs) drive my car the ride quality is a bit stiff for my tastes, but when there is extra weight in the car (i.e. someone in the passenger seat, full tank of gas, etc.), the ride quality is surprisingly better. Better as in a smoother ride, less vibrations, ect... I would definitely like a smoother ride.
Why is this? The springs are the normal Tein SS spring rates. My guess is that the springs are stiffer than my tastes and they compress more when there's more wieght in the car....but i'm not sure.
Anyone with ideas on this? Please let me know...thanks.
BTW: Here's a pic of my car:

Nice looking car, its not that more weight compresses the spriongs more but you have more weight for the prings to support therefore they compress more freely.
would you think that a softer spring rate would provide a more comfortable ride in my case? i have heard of people using eibach springs on their teins...any confirmation of this?
Thanks guys...
Thanks guys...

The reason for this probably has to do with the fact that there's more mass in the car to disperse the energy of motion that bumps in the road create. The extra weight will hold the car down to the road better and not let it bounce around so much. In other words, it will hold the body of the car in place and make the suspension work harder, rather than let the stiffness of the springs bounce the car around. HTH!!
EDIT** Oh yeah, nice car!! Slap an OEM lip on there and it'll be 100% perfect!

quick89si is actually kinda correct, basically youve added more mass. in terms of harmonic vibration, theres three factors: mass, damping, and spring rate. youve by adding the extra weight to the rear, youve obviously changed the mass. but i think you should also consider that youve shifted the center of gravity to the rear. this is important because tuning of the rear suspension affects the amount of "bounciness" more than the front because the center of gravity is more towards the front, thus the levering distance is greater between COG and rear suspension points, which any force on the rear suspension is multiplied even greater to the total movement of the chassis. picture it as an uneven see-saw.
i dont really have an answer for you but i just want to say that is a SWEEEEEEEEET car. if ur in Cali area and lookin to sell, hit me up at jakc1010@msn.com
yeah, i was hoping that too. i contacted Ryan (vtecvoodoo) - the guy who i purchased the teins from and he said

so i'm still looking for other options here...perhaps another spring company?

hey if you need an oem lip ive got one. its for a usdm but it should still fit!
you can use the eibach springs you will need to get the tein spring dementions. and talk to your local eibach dealer. they shouldnt cost you any more then $55 a spring. what i would do is find out from tein what spring rate you have from the factory. then go with 50lbs less then what they give you that will give yout he quality of ride that you are looking for. hell im running 350/450's on my car. and it gets a little annoying sometimes so i can understand whats going on!
