gotta love jersey edumacation
who cares about the mileage?
if hes able to get it into gear, and then it pops out of gear under heavy load i'd say his syncro teeth are non existant...
i'd highly doubt its the clutch nor pressure plate otherwise he'd have massive problem getting it into gear in any gear.

I recently swapped trans, and it turns out that one of the bolts on the tranny case was not all the way tight, so it slowly leaked out fluid. The symptoms were the exact same as yours until I tightened the bolt and topped it off.

Like people have said, check the tranny fluid for quantity and condition. If you don't know how, take it to a shop and have them do it.
It is poping right out of gear, putting itself in neutral, right? Or is it just the clutch slipping while it is in gear?

Your clutch is dead. Slipping while in gear is not a tranny problem.
