Just kidding about the torque...I washed my car today and was looking at my AEM intake and notice that it was moving around. I checked my bypass valve and found that the plastic pieces broke in half. Anybody had this problem with their AEM w/ bypass valve??? I think it was tighten too much. Oh well had to buy another one. Dayam things are expensive $50. Anybody know how much for the Mugen Intake System?
Get a Comptech Icebox...I know it's not JDM but you can't argue with the proven results...plus you wont have to worry about buying a new $50 bypass valve every few months just to keep your engine from eating itself.

AEM'as recall on it was because of the foam on the Bypass, it would come out and get stuck in the throttle body holding it open. IF you go into an AEM dealer they would give you a plastic ring to put inside the bypass.
I called them and they sent it out to me...got it in a few days...too bad my bypass valve is sitting in my closet and will remain there...I have decided not to install it..........
anyone want to buy one? has the new and improved (read: fixed) AEM design!

I drove through a puddle that almost entirely submerged the wheels of my R, and the Icebox did fine. Although I guess if I was in full VTEC I may have caused some damage

Yah I know it got recalled and I did get the plastic piece for it...but didn't matter...the plastic snapped so I had to buy a new one. Gosh I wish I had $650 to buy Mugen Intake System.
yeah my aem is obsolete im gonna dump near 400 bucks on a new intake just as restrictive to save me from buying bypass valves... if your worried so much about hydrolock get a damn short ram or cut your aem in two and run in short when your in bad weather. And long in hot.
Dont say something as idiotic as, go purchase your comptech icebox today, I hopped on the bandwagon and its great I am different now yeah me!!!

Possible, yes....but probably much more likely with an AEM.
It seems to me that it would be easier to submerge the "Funnel" of the Icebox than the whole AEM air filter...
Being as thats what it would take to suck large volumes of water...
Once either one is fully submerged...Reguardless of the filter box...Its gonna suck water into the motor.
Actually the IceBox has pressure relief holes...
Ever try to suck up soda through a straw with a hole in it?? Takes alot more effort.

Well, Chris beat me too it...
But, it also seems to me that the water would have to travel much, much higher to reach the filter in the Icebox. The filter is a good 2-1/2 feet off the ground...whereas the AEM is maybe a 1 foot or so. So you would have to be in some serious flooding (or be an idiot and drive in the rain with your turn signal removed) to get hydrolock with the Icebox. Not saying it's impossible...just less likely than the chances of hydrolock in the AEM. Buy hey, your intake does sound cool!

Don't get the Mugen one. I heard the Comptech Ice Box is much better, even better than the AEM.
I dont really think its idiotic to suggest the Icebox. It has near OEM quality, doesnt rub up against the AC lines, stands a much smaller chance of hydrolocking, sounds awesome with the box top off, and you can take your turn signal out when you go to the track for more air. Also, there is the performance. You may lose 1 or 2 peak hp to the AEM, but you get around the same hp across the board (more or less 6-8hp) and MUCH more torque. My ITR with only the Icebox and timing advance has 125 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels. That's ~150 at the crank. I guess I really am an idiot.
mugen one is good...some people may not think its worth the extra cash..but i do...especially the air horn after the filter...it would also be another water sucker though...
As a somewhat off-topic comment; I think it is idiotic to respond to q question about the AEM intake with "buy a Comptech Icebox" I have an Icebox, so don't get me wrong, but he isn't going to go out and buy one, he just wants to know if people have had similar problems with the AEM and if so what they did.
Let's read the question here guys

Well, he did ask "Anyone know how much for the Mugen Intake System?" which led me to believe that he might be considering replacing his AEM Cold-Water intake
with something else. I simply suggested the Comptech because the Mugen is way overpriced.

So youre saying a properly installed Bypass valve clip on a good condition bypass valve still broke?
And you bought another one, without contacting AEM first?
AEM WILL cover it all for you. Id call Kirk ASAP and get everything straight.
