Default GSR swaps with OBD1 conversion...exhaust cam solenoid...

There is a 1 wire (what appears to be a solenoid) on the exhaust cam. What do I need to wire this up too?

Thanks for any info!

Ok damn I'm a moron. I was thinking that was the 2 wire plug on the side of the head...wow.

Ok. So then I'm assuming the 1 wire sender right next to that is the coolant temp?

no, the two wire is vtec oil pressure, the one wire is the vtec solenoid.

Ugh.

Now your telling me something different. as I understand it, the solenoid on the Exhaust cam is the VTEC solenoid. The 2 wire is the oil pressure switch. now I'm talking about the 1 wire sender right next to the 2 wire oil pressure switch on the side of the head (close to the gasket).

Needless to say, I can't wait until my Helms arrives... : /

Haha...*******. For about 2980 of those posts, I've been a hardcore ZC'er. so STFU.

This is my first B series swap, and Helms is taking forever.

That small one wire that's CLOSEST TO THE HEAD GASKET is the coolant temp gauge sender. Unplug it and see if your temp gauge still registers. Your ZC should of had this same exact sensor in the same spot....

Bryson;

I'm currently wiring up (OBD1) the 95 B18C that I've put in my 89 SI. Here are the answers (as I understand it)

On the side of the head (at the end of the exhaust cam) there is a "module" (aluminum piece) that is for the VTEC. On it there is a one wire connection and that is the VTEC solenoid (activates the VTEC by allowing oil pressure to pass). Also on that module is a sensor that is hooked up the ECU telling it the oil pressure (the ECU will not engauge the VTEC if the oil pressure isn't high enough).

This oil pressure sensor is different than the "one wire" one that is mounted on the back of the block (and also goes to the ECU)

On the head, near the "module" are two sensors and they are both for water temperature. The one wire one goes to the gauge on the dash. The other goes to the ECU.

There is a third water sensor that is mounted on the thermostat housing. That one works (in parallel with the ECU) to turn on the radiator fan.

It all seems pretty crazy (three sensors for water temperature?!?!?!), but that's what it seems to be.

hehe...Thanks a lot man!

yeah I was kinda wondering which one of those water temps sensors, was the fan switch. The one on the ZC is on the back of the block.
