Default piston removal

ok i just got some pistons installed and the shop that did it told me the way the remove them, the old pistons get destroyed. Ive talked to a few mecahanic friends of mine and they told me it was bullshit and that the shop just kept my pistons. Is there any reason my pistons would have been "Destroyed" upon removal? This doesnt add up and i really hope i didnt get fucked by these guys.

um last time i checked you pull the head, undo like 16 bolts and pull the rod & piston straight outta the head. i don't see where the mechanic would even get the idea to tell you that they got destroyed

if they are talking about removing the stock pistons from the stock rods then yes there is a chance they get destroyed while removing them.

the piston pin in press fitted into the rod. if they just dry pressed them out with no heat then the pins and pistons get fucked. (also the rod possibly)

IF this shop knows what they are doing then they should be able to remove the pistons without ruining them........but it sounds like they probably did.......

If they have the correct type of press, there should be no problems pressing the pins out successfully. However, some presses will put force on the piston, instead of part of the rod and that could damage the pistons.

this is why when ever i get anything done at a shop that i dont know/trust, or i cant see them do it, i ask for the old part back EVEN if it was destoryed.

good luck to you man, i really hope they didnt merk you on your pistons, what kinda pistons did you put into your block? (what block do you have) also, if you go back and ask for them back they should have them still. if they tell you no they already shipped them out to the junkyard then there is something funny going on. shops usally stockpile all there crap untill they have alot of stuff to throw out, so there is a really small chance they junked your old pistons.

good luck mate

i got ctr pistons installed into a stock b16 block. the shop is pretty well known, especially on this board. I just dont want to have to pull the head again or do a compression test now to make sure they even installed them. This kind of **** just makes me wish i had more tools and knowledge so i wouldnt have to worry about **** like this.

dont get so down on yourself, **** happens you know. just go back to the shop and tell them you want your stock b16 pistons back thats all. The pistons are yours not theres, they have no place to tell you no b/c you never told them that they could keep your old pistons.

Thats like saying, im going to put this new TV in your house but without asking you i am going to keep your old one and if you ask me why i am going to tell you it is broken. Oh, but you cant ask for the old TV back b/c i already junked it... makes no sence.

go to the shop, ask; no tell them you want your old pistons back even if they are broken. the items are yours, by them not giveing them back to you they are steeling from you. good luck mate
