no no, he's not trying to identify what the thing looks like in his car...he's trying to find out if it's Matsushita or Sanden.
Mine (that I have sitting in a box of parts waiting for the rest of the system) has a silver like, badging on it that says Sanden and TR-70 Turbo something something.
I'm not sure what the other one says.

Glad you asked cuz I woulda waited another 3 months before I checked mine
edit: pic of a sanden
couldn't find one of a matsushita. might be able to tell by the number of grooves on the pulley? most of the sanden ones say they use 4 groove..dunno how that would be different with the same crank pulley but maybe it is between different models such as dx hf si, maybe even sir?

On a scale of 1 to 10,
1 meaning you can't change a tire,
10 meaning you can build a dragster with coconuts,
how hard is it to change out just the compressor?

Like a 3 or 4 only because it is a bitch due to location... otherwise it would be 2 or 3.
Drain the AC correctly so you don't lose the ac oil and personally ruin the Ozone directly above your house. Remove everything between you and the AC compressor. Loosen the tensioner. Remove the belt. Get a drink. Spray the bolts with penatrating oil because I've had them break off and it sucks. Remove bolts. Remove compressor. Replace compressor. Bitch about the the scrapes on your hand from the radiator. Put belt back on. Tension the belt. Replace fan and all that crap (be sure to plug it back in. Hook up lines. Refil. Enjoy.
Just make sure you drain that stuff right before you take anything apart. I almost seriously dicked up my eye one time because I unbolted a line on a supposed empty system, and the freon and oil shot out in to my eye and mouth... it was about 10 degrees and we were outside to add insult to injury.
