Default Removing Side Moldings

i want to get the little stripe that goes across the sides painted red to match the car (they're black right now). i got a quote from the auto place, he said he wanted $100 to paint both, if i took them off and put them back on myself.

how can i remove the 4 pieces and reattach them after i have them painted? i don't want to paint them myself and risk f*ing the whole thing up.

thanks

I'd say unless you have a 4 door, stripping the interior in the back of a hatch is gonna take a long time. Of course like the previous guy I don't know if you really have to do that. But I don't see any other way since I know you can't just rip it right off the car. My friend got in an accident and his molding fell off and I saw that the the plugs are really secure. I'd recommend you just tell the guy to mask off your car and paint the moldings while it's on the car.

If it's your first time taking it off, not knowing where **** is, it'll take no more than a 1/2 hour.. After painting moldings, new door handles and just wanting to look like a race-*****™, I got it down 7:24 flat..

As for the comment about painting it on the car.. (sigh) Spend the fkn 30 minutes and take the moldings off.. All u need is a phillips and a 10mm..

Don't they have to blend the paint into the doors so it looks like the same color? I thought that's why most body pieces had to be painted while on the car.

Perhaps I'm mistaken though. Although I know places like Maaco and stuff will paint stuff off the car, but that's why it's only like $50 to paint a spoiler.

Well that's what paint color codes are for.. The paint shops 'should' paint the part and then check to see if it matches..

Me, I want the piece sprayed evenly, on the front AND the back, OFF my car.. That is professional, and I thought, the only way to do it.. Obviously there's always people trying to cut corners, resulting in shitty work.. (did I hear maaco?)

It takes a few minutes to take any piece off the car for painting.. Both side moldings, 30 minutes if u are paralyzed in one arm, and rear wing, isn't that FOUR BOLTS? oh yah, u gotta open the trunk..
