So im droping my friend off friday night and i notice that when im in gear around 2000 3000 rpm that my engine started to bog down but once i give it some more gas i was cool so the next day were going to the h-t meet in Richardson and half way there it wouldn't let me go past 4000 rpm if i try then i would loose power . in the mean time my tach needle was jumping all crazy and on the way back it would only let me go to 3200 rpm so as soon as i got home i parked it and i plan on putting it in the shop when I get out of school today
does the car idle normal? had you noticed ANYTHING out of the ordinary befor ethis started to happen, is the check engine light on? is there any noise coming from the engine other than a bogging? how many miles? timing belt been done?
How many miles on your engine? What mods including to the ECU if any? How high do you rev it? Look at the oil on the dip-stick. If it shimmers like it has metal flakes in it then you have a spun bearing.

Sorry, I have to bash you about driving a car for 3months with a ** WARNING ** light on ...especially one that so obviously means theres a potential problem with the most signifigant part of your car , the engine! ... Would you let an oil light run for 3months?
Thats car abuse mang .. tsk tsk ..
anyways, go get a paper clip, bend it into a U shape, pull the service connector from behind the stereo (easy to reach driver side by the gas pedal) its a little clip with 2 wires plugged into an empty connector to hold it ..
put the paper clip in there, it'll blink a series of long and short ,tell us how many long/short ... there can be multiple codes and each will be 2 digit so get a pen/paper and write it down until it starts to repeat itself.
in the meantime, open up the distributor cap and tell us if there is a lot of dust inside .. could be your distributor is toast.

I think I might agree with the clogged cat.
It would throw a code, and it would cause the car to run badly.
And staring at a CEL for three months... My God, that's bad. As punishment you must give me your Prelude and drive a Civic.

i know, its hard to get it checked out when you dont have a job and your parents dont hellp you wit **** i know its not a excuse but i wouldnt mind driving a crx si for a lil bit or a ef hatch
I have to agree with lone luder ... thats a really harsh insult for a prelude enthusiast but ... I think its fitting for having an engine code and when its free and easy to check (and you do have the resources because you're here) .... yea ... best of luck.

ok so i get my car back today and there was a group of wiers next to the intake and valve cover were out of the socket and i think some thing was wrong with the egr valve i think thats what its called corect me if im wrong
dude you know what works for your check engine light, unplug the negative power cable for like 15-20 minutes, it will reset the ECU, sometimes i think it goes off for petty ****, but if it goes on within an hour after you reset it, just go get it checked...
Also, for the engine probs, it might not get over 4K rpms cuz youre plugs or wires are shot...

It also can be your distributor. Thats pretty much the same crap that happened to my when my distributor died. Best advice is check your codes!! You will be able to tell for sure then. I just leave that blue wiring dangling since I am checking codes every week Good luck, keep us updated.
