Did I Damage My Engine?
Please help -
I ran my 94 GSR low on oil for a couple hundred miles and with some
redlining (the low oil light NEVER came on and VTEC still engaged but
sporadically) and it does a couple strange things that are worrying me.
Now it idles funny. It goes from 1000-1500 rpm for a little while but if it
warms up enough it idles at 900 rpm. If I drive it enough, it will idle at
600rpm like it should.
Now for the really worrying part - when I turn the key off, the engine
continues for a half rev, gives a soft "clunk" and then stops.
When I changed the spark plugs I noticed that the electrodes were a bit eroded and the tips were a bit whitish. I am thinking that the timing needs to be adjusted...
I am going to take it in but I wanted to know what I should be
expecting...or maybe it is something I can fix myself?
Thanks in advance for any help.

How low do you mean when you say 'low'? If we are talking a quart or less low, there was probably no damage. But if we are talking about 2 or 3 quarts low, I would suspect damage.
The Low Engine Oil Light never came on and I was being a bit lazy so...
I pulled the intake off the TB and cleaned it out - sprayed a bunch of TB cleaner in there. Also sprayed some si lube in there. Seems to be idling a bit better.
I have changed the oil and filter and plugs a couple weeks ago.
When I turn the key off the engine still continues for a half rev or so and has a soft click or clunk when it stops.
PS - I had marked the stock location of the distributor and put it back. I had advanced the timing very slightly. (About a 1/16 of an inch).
