Default Timing Belt question....Decked h23 block. Need help!

I had to redo my camgear oil seals, and now I'm having trouble putting on my timing belt back on right. I noticed that when i took off the timing belt off, that the 5mm punch bolt holes were slightly off on the cam shaft holes.

Now that i lined those up with a 5mm punch pin, and put on the timing belt on, i rotate the crank pulley and put the camgears to tdc and now the crankshaft tdc is slightly off on the flywheel inspection hole.

Is this supposed to be off by a little since the block was decked?

was it you that decked the block,? and why did they do it, and how much

yes, if the block was decked then the alighnment marks will be alittle off depending on how much material was taken off.

just make sure that if you went one tooth either way, that it would be way off, and not just a little. thats how i did mine to make sure i was right. if you were to skip back or forward one tooth, then would it be way off or still close ?

thats not very much, if i were you i would check that your not off a tooth one way or the other, and make sure you timing blet isn't steched really bad.

i had my block decked 35 thousanths, and my timing marks were off by just a hair with a relativly new timing belt

The timing belt fairly new...only has like 1500 miles on it.

I was able to finally get it right after like 8 tries...the exhaust cam is slightly off 1-2 degrees..

I'll fix that with my camgears..

Thanks for the help.

yeah timing belts are one thing you def don't want to rush, i had a friend who had a shop do hit timing belt, and about a year later he had to have his main pulley replaced, and turns out one of his cams was off a whole tooth, and the car idled fine, but he said once the cam was fixed he noticed a pretty big difference on top end power
