Default How long does it take before my new pistons & rings seal up good ?

I've resleeved my B18C1 engine , put new Wiseco piston & rings in it , how long does it take befor the seal up ? I am burning some oil now and (like 1:4th of a galon per 100 miles)
Is this normal ? Because the Wiseco piston rings are harder than the sleeves !

If your cylinder bores were straight and properly honed then it should only take 4-500 miles to be completely sealed up with stock sleeves. I'm of the opinion that you should be running non-detergent oil for break-in, but I know this is open for debate. I too have Wiseco rings in my sleeved engine and they seated fine after about 600 miles. They're moly filled ductile iron on the top ring and ductile iron on the second ring as I recall so yeah they're tougher than the stock sleeves, but it shouldn't be a problem. I assume you're using a compression tester to monitor their progress? How many miles have you put on it?

i would go another 300-400. if it is still suckin oil then something is wrong, just keep doin frequent compression tests in the meantime

You burn 1/4 of a gallon of motor oil for every 100 miles...more clearly stated 1 quart of oil for 100 miles. Easier that way.

Continue to break in your motor and see if you are still experiencing the same problem after breakin is complete. I burn about a quart every 200-250 miles (normal driving not beating the hell out of my car).
