atte: wiring guru's!! help. tach needle on sir cluster jumps to 1k w/ motor not running
so i turn the key to ON so instrument lights turn on but motor stays off and the tach needle will jump to about 800rpm or so on my jdm sir cluster. weird this is.. everything is hooked up perfect. followed diagrams well, triple checked everything and i have no clue what's up.
it'll stay that way (tach showing 1k or so more than what it really is) because my launch control on my chipped ecu is set at 3.5k. but on the tach it shows at 4.5k.
help me please. thanks in advance

yup, when it's off it'll be at 0 like the norm. but once the key is turned to the ON position it'll go to 800rpms.
to be more specific, the needle will bounce a little when key is in ON position. it'll go to 1500 then quickly settle at 800.
also when i start the car the needle will jump up and down some more while it's cranking. it's like there is too much juice in the wire or something. but like i said, everything is hooked up perfect. what can cause this?
this is pissing me off. it's reading 1k rpm's more than what it really is.

I know you said you have the wiring right, but it sure sounds like you have it wired wrong. In order for the Tach to move, you need some power going to it.
What wiring diagram did you use to hook this up? I can dig mine up if you'd like and scan it for you.

dude, the tach is moving. it works. it's that that's it's reading 1000 rpm more than what it should be reading.
theres also that problem where the tach moves when key is ON but not cranking over. when i do crank it, the tach will bounce between 1000 and 2000 rpms.
hey andres, it's grounded ok, man. the whole cluster is functional except for the tach acting up. also, the vss caught on fire, dude. crazy ****. there is a yellow wire w/ white stripe = power, right? then yellow wire w/blue stripe = signal wire for cluster? black ground.
