Default Help with selecting an amp

i just bought one kenwood 12" sub (kfc-w3003) from a guy local to me and i'm looking around for an amp to power it. should i stick with a mono amp for it or is it better to get a 2ch amp? i don't plan on upgrading my interior speakers anytime soon either so i'm keeping that in mind while i shop around.

also, when the sub is rated at 600w peak and 160rms does that mean that i should find a 600w amp to power the sub at peak or do i just look to match the rms power? sounddomain.com suggests a 2ch amp bridged for the 1 sub....do you audio gurus agree?

btw...the reason why i bought a single 12" sub is because i don't want overpowering bass.

any help would be appreciated!!

i have that exact amp pushing 1 10" kappa. Works well for me. I chose it for the price and quality. It feels to be sturdily built. The only complaints I have are the connection terminals are kinda small and the adjustment ***** require a small flat head, so pretty minor details.
good choice for the price.

I would get the Alpine. You'll be happy with either, though.

one other question....

i was talking to someone yesterday about these amps and he said that it would be way too much for the one sub. the sub is rated at 160w rms so he said to find an amp producing about 100w rms so that i don't blow the sub. would you guys agree? he was suggesting a 50x2 amp and then bridging it to run 100w at 4ohm load. if that's the case, wouldn't it be better to find a 75x2 amp so that i could run it at 150w rms?

basically, i need help figuring out what the general guidelines are for matching an amp to your speakers. i kind of understand it but everyone keeps telling me something different so i don't really know what to think anymore.

search around youll find plenty of info, maybe not on here but try caraudioforum.com

But as long as you dont put your gain too high and continuously drill the sub you should be allright.

You should get this amp. Way better, still fits your needs also they have great warranty on their products.

man, this is the second post in a row that i'm seeing boston acoustics rocked like it's super duper. i agree, it's good. but alpine is just as good (IMO even better). fosgate is best bang for the buck, but as a part time installer, i will tell you...alpine is a HELL of a lot cleaner...when tuned right.

ok...as i keep searching around for a good amp, i found 2 more that i need your opinion on.

first, phoenix gold octane-r 2.5:2---i'll be running that at 150w rms bridged at 4ohm.

the second amp is jbl p80.2--again, bridged at 4ohm but 160w rms.

i'm leaning towards phoenix gold just because a lot of people have had great experiences with them. i've heard systems with phoenix gold amps and they sounded awesome.

also, i've basically ruled out the first 2 amps (alpine and rockford) just because they look like they'll be too powerful for what i plan on doing.

thanks for all the help guys. i am very picky when it comes to buying stuff for my car. i always research everything very well and look for the best possible price for it. i've been reading stuff about amps and calling and emailing shops all over to find the perfect amp for the perfect price.

Phoenix Gold isn't as good as they used to be. When the M, MS series were out they were awesome. Then the XS series came which wasn't bad, the tantrum series was the XS with just a new cover (essentially), and I haven't really heard anything good about the octane series.

If getting a phoenix gold amp, I would highly recommend getting the ZX titanium series or an older m50 or m100. (I wish i didn't sell me M50 and M100, stupidiest move i ever made).
