Default bad water pump? will it make a squealing noise while car is on?

ok well at idle my car is making this low pitch squealing noise...but its loud enough to here from inside the car. i thought it may be a bad alternator belt...i just replaced it and its still there. i see now that i have coolant leaking out from underneath the car...i followed it up to where its coming from and it seems to be coming from my water pump. if the water pump is bad will it make this squealing noise? i read somewhere that a bad timing belt tensioner will it squeal, is this true? ok thanks for the help.

Dude, I have the same problem!! Mine is a 99 Honda Accord with 97k miles on it. I thought it was the belt. But my mechanic checked it and it wasn't. He checked vaccum lines and didn't think it was that either. What is it???

Just because you guys replaced the alternator belt does not mean its not the alternator still, take the belt off and turn the engine on and see if the noise goes away. Or go buy a stethoscope and find the problem.

squeling noise could be the water pump shaft bearings and the water pump is designed to leak when its going bad...i would change the water pump

There's no leakage anywhere though. Are you sure it's still the water pump? The squealing comes and goes. Sometimes I hear it when I keep it at 2500 rpm. Sometimes I hear it when I'm waiting at the drive thru at McDonalds. My mechanic has confirmed it's not the belt. I don't think it's the tensioner. If it's the tensioner, the noise would be constant and won't vary in pitch with rpm.

I know this thread is old as hell.. but it's the only thread I found that described my problem. I just started to hear a little squeal from my motor at idle/very little throttle. My idle surged one time just a little bit also, from ~400-800. I'm about 700 miles away from home with very little tools and hardly any extra money :S I haven't seen any sort of leeking at all, but from what I read, it sounds like my water pump is dying out. Is this something I can replace with some basic tools? I read that you need to remove the crank pully bolt, is this for this bottom bolt hole?

Thanks for any help.

you need to remove the timing belt (search for timing belt replacement)
